[Edit for text mistakes, review from 2021] Came with a groupon reservation. Overall good meal facing the beach, below are my caveats:
in the reservation, I left it very clear that I wanted a table by the beach (they have tables right by the restaurants front and a bunch a bit further right by the beach) with a parasol. I tried calling an hour before our reservation to confirm this but the phone was hung up/not working. When we got there, we did NOT get a te by the beachfront like we had asked for. Our reservation was made about 2 weeks in advance.
they didnt have the 1 appetizer we were excited to try (fried pulpo). Apparently they sold out on Saturday and dont bring fresh food on sundays. I recommend not going on a sunday then.
we were the 2nd table to sit that afternoon. The table after us seemed to also have the groupon and they got their paella first. I thoguht it wasnt a big deal, as we were still eating our starters and they had finished theirs. We would probably get our (their) paella in 5 or 10min. WRONG. The waitress had mistakenly given them ours, AND the kitchen lost the order of the 2nd paella, so they were not making ours. After 10-15min of waiting, I asked a waiter and he said he'd check. He said it would not be too long. I also asked the waitress as she was tending to our side of the customers and she said that there was an issue with the kitchen but they were now making our paella as fast as they could.
We only ate half of it and took the test home, must say that it tasted better the second day after I cooked it a bit more and it wasnt liquid anymore!
I'm leaving 3 stars despite the issues, because it was a busy sunday and I understand mistakes happen, just own them and fix them the best way you can. If they had offered us something as I wrote before, it would be at least a 4 stars, potentially a 5 if the paella was also...
Read moreI went to this restaurant on my last day of a 3 day break to Gran Canaria - I'm a private chef so 4 days off was welcome and I love eating food abroad. I've been all over the world and dining (often on my own) in restaurants by the sea is just my favourite thing.
I had wonderful experiences in Gran Canaria (of which I will leave positive reviews - I don't like to be publicly critical unless under severe circumstances) with the exception of this place. Restaurante La Barca San Andres. 1980.
If the restaurant is still in the family, the founding parents will be devastated at what this place has become. It's disgusting.
I went to this restaurant on my last day (foolishly, without checking the reviews) and thought I would treat myself to a nice meal for one. (When the bill came I found the grande cerveza were €6.50 which was a lot more expensive than other restaurants, but I don't have an issue with that for the purpose of this review.)
I ordered a grilled lobster at €120p/k, the lobster came at about 800g. Charred and burnt, claws intact but nothing to open them with. Awful.
I explained to the waiter that I wanted a treat and was trying to order something special but this was just really disappointing.
He apologised and offered another lobster or an alternative. I asked what the alternative is and he offered me 'some Prawns - big Prawns'. I said that would be fine, thank you!
The Prawns came - 6 large Prawns. They were lovely (with exception of 1 undercooked).
I thanked the staff for the special meal that I had wanted. I ordered a coffee and went to pay the bill.
They said the bill was €350
The 6 Prawns were apparently €290. So just short of €50 a prawn. The lobster would have been €80-€120
They threatened to call the police when I said I'll pay for the lobster and drinks but I don't want to pay the rest as the price was never mentioned- it was suggested as a resolution.
Eventually they said they would accept €250 for the bill and I paid to avoid conflict.
Locals tell me they charge €3.50 for beers but tourists get charged anything they like. Everybody knows the place as terrible. Don't go. I'll...

u will waste ur money, me and my husband wanted to try the Paella for the first time so we ordered Paella with fish and meat. We asked if we can order it with chicken instead of fish and the waiter said yes of course without telling us it’s going to charge us 23€ extra, the normal price for 2 per was 36€ we got the bill with 59€. We discussed that with the waiter he was so rude and told us that was not his job to tell us that it’s going to charge us extra, we should ask about the price but we didn’t. At the end we solved that with the manager and he understood, we paid 40€. The food was so bad the meat tasted like gum and the rice has an unpleasant taste of fish we left more that the half of the dish. Atmosphere was even not very good behind us was a Family with kids they were so loud and pulled the chair back many times we couldn’t chill or enjoy the sea view at all. All the waiters were rude no one smiled at us at all. We supposed to leave Gran Canary today late nicht and had unfortunately a very bad experience there during...
