As a vegan and person with a dairy intolerance, I came here as they advertised a vegan option, the asparagus risotto. After a few mouthfuls, I sensed a cheesy flavour and told myself they must’ve used vegan cheese - I haven’t had real cheese in 11 years so hard to remember what it tastes like. However, after a few more mouthfuls my stomach cramps and bloating started due to my intolerance. My family all tried it and confirmed it clearly had real cheese in.
We alerted the staff and they said they would ask the chef. They shortly returned stating that no cheese was used which was clearly not the case; either the chef lied to protect himself or the waiting staff lied to protect the chef. They blamed the cheesy flavour on everything from the olive oil to the mushrooms they used whilst I sat there in discomfort from my dairy intolerance.
The staff were aggressive in their defence of the chef. They even put the risotto box in Tupperware and told us to get it tested which was extremely bizarre and not something I could do even if I wanted to as we caught out flight home early the next morning.
The thing is, we’re all human and mistakes happen. It isn’t the first time I’ve been inadvertently given something non-vegan in a restaurant and I’m sure it won’t be the last. However, I’m usually faced with apologies, not aggression and gaslighting.
I swiftly had to rush home and was quite poorly from the reaction to the dairy. A couple who had been sat nearest witnessed the whole scene and asked if I was ok as I left. I would urge any vegans and people with allergies and intolerances to avoid this place as I do feel it’s genuinely unsafe for...
Read moreWe went here on recommendation but had the most dissapointing bizarre experience we've ever encountered in a restaurant! As you can see we haven't rated the food as we never got to actually eat! The reason being we were informed that we couldn't order a pasta dish with our bruchetta before our main meal option as the kitchen wasn't set up for this and different chefs prepare each course (but in the same kitchen) 🤔🙈😆 18 yrs of living in Spain and never heard anything so ridiculous . There were over 100 covers that evening full inside and out everyone eating at different times? After 20 minutes of discussion we were told we could have the pasta by which time neither of us felt happy or relaxed enough to stay. It completely put a dampener on our evening as we were actually celebrating our anniversary! Luckily we walked round the corner to an old favourite. With a brief explanation they kindly set up a table for us even though they were fully booked. We were allowed to order whatever we wanted even got offered dessert first 🤣 Thankfully we thoroughly enjoyed the rest of our evening, and the pasta was...
Read moreTerrible experience where my wife - who is vegan - was given the risotto which had clearly been cooked using cheese. I could tell she was reticent with it as she suspected that it didn’t smell right. I check it and you can tell by the smell that the chef had used cheese. When we highlighted this to the staff they were adamant it hadn’t. Things go wrong in restaurants but it is the way the staff handle situations as this can help to redeem our experience. It’s a shame as they clearly mean well by advertising a vegan risotto - but what we would in this area is that most didn’t understand what veganism was or what it meant. Considering the prices and that this restaurant tries to advertisement itself as fine dining compared to the other restaurant’s on this strip, we were really disappointed by the way they treated...
