My friend, L, visited Malaga in May and was absolutely amazed by Alaska Tavern. She vowed to visit Malaga every month just to dine at this restaurant. So, in June, she invited us for a second visit, and it was indeed delicious. The three of us had a seafood feast and it only cost €70, leaving us completely satisfied.
🐚 Conchas Finas
These are sold individually, and when you eat them, they are sliced in half. They have a crisp and tender texture, reminiscent of fresh Arctic scallops.
🥗 Russian Salad
This is actually a common Spanish dish that originated from Russia. This restaurant adds a generous amount of large shrimp to the salad. With every bite, you can taste the freshness of the shrimp. It's incredibly delicious.
🦐 Boiled Prawns
These were alright, just simply boiled prawns.
🦐 Red Prawns
These are not red king prawns but slightly lighter in color. They are sweet and flavorful, even more delicious than sweet prawns. She highly recommends them.
🐚 Clams
These clams were grilled a bit too long, and they were overly salty. Personally, she doesn't recommend them.
🐙 Whole Fried Octopus
This is a signature dish! The octopus is tender and incredibly chewy, and it's a very large one. After finishing one whole octopus among the three of us, we were completely stuffed.
🍆+ 🍯
Fried Eggplant with Molasses Sauce
The eggplant is cut into strips similar to fries, coated and fried until crispy, sprinkled with a pinch of salt, and then topped with molasses sauce. The molasses sauce used is rich and sweet, similar to the one used in brown sugar rice cake (红糖糍粑). Paired with slightly salty eggplant, it's quite tasty. However, after devouring the octopus, we couldn't eat much more.
⚠️ Note: They don't accept reservations, and the seating is limited. The restaurant opens at 8 PM, so it's best to arrive early; otherwise, you may have to wait in line for...
Read moreWe went there was recommended by a local friend. We went twice. The first day was good so we decided to go there again on the second day. However both my elder mom and I got really bad food poisoning after ate there on May 18th. I think it’s either from the Gamba roja plancha or the Salpicon en Manteca as those were the two dishes that she ate more than me and she had more server symptoms. 30 minutes after we finish food, my elder mom started to vomit so bad 🤮 and had to run to bathroom every 30 minutes. It’s been more than 12 hours. I also start the symptoms 1-2 hours later and had server fever🤒. My mom didn’t ate raw oysters so we know our symptoms were not from the oyster. Unfortunately i really wanted to give a negative score w/r/t the freshness of the food. The atmosphere is good and crowded with local people. I think i deserve to get my money back and plus the cost for medicines. we have to cancel our trip for the same day and next day as we barely can get off bed now.
I saw the owner’s reply and ask me to prove the food poisoning is from his restaurant and food.as this is the only place we ate on 5/18 so after ate there established the vomiting and diarrhea and high fever symptoms.
5/19 we have to go to Portugal but as of today 5/19 we purchased more medicines and as of today 5/20 my elder mom and I can only stay in hotel and suffering still can’t go anywhere.
I don’t know how to contact the restaurant as I don’t have local phone. But if the owner is sincerely wanted to reach out to me, I can be...
Read moreThe food is generally good but as other users have mentioned, the restaurant is very “local” with Spanish menu only. When I was there with my friend, I tried to speak Spanish when ordering. The patrons at the next table were laughing at us (probably due to how ignorant we were about the menu items). That made us feel unwelcome. The lady who served us was super nice though. The place seems to be always very busy. I had to personally walked up to the counter and asked for the check (or bill) since none of the staff responded. We had the adobo (some kind of fried white fish), grilled shrimps (pochos de langoustines) and grilled octopus (pulpo) were good. The cold shrimps with shells were okay. The place is like a hole in the wall “street food” type of place. So beware if you are not comfortable in that...
