Reservation at 9:30 PM – Disappointing Experience

We were really looking forward to our dinner, especially after reading positive reviews, but unfortunately, our experience didn’t live up to expectations.

To begin with, the restaurant appeared understaffed—only one person was serving and another behind the bar. This resulted in slow service and very little ambiance, which set a poor tone for the evening.

The menu was limited and lacked descriptions, making it difficult to make informed choices. For the kids, we ordered ravioli with cheese, which was extremely basic. The "bread & tomato" turned out to be brown bread with some tomato oil—again, quite plain.

The salmon tartare with guacamole was tasty but came in a very small portion, with less than half a teaspoon of guacamole and a few crackers. At €20, it felt overpriced given the quantity.

We debated between the veal (€30) and the côte de boeuf (€37), but with no descriptions provided, we took a chance and chose the beef. What arrived was a modest portion of steak with some small roasted potatoes. The quality was fine, but it felt overpriced for what we got.

To drink, we ordered a Chardonnay and a Tempranillo. Unfortunately, both glasses were empty well before our main courses arrived, and were never refilled or followed up on. The overall timing of service was definitely off.

Neither Anna nor Pépé, whom we assume are the owners or hosts, came to check on our table or ask how our meal was. This lack of engagement was disappointing, especially given the otherwise good feedback we had seen online.

Decent food and really friendly service with good atmosphere but real shame was marred at the end as they chose to charge me my local currency rather than euros when paying the bill via credit card. They chose to preselect option of me declining the Mastercard currency rate without me realising so I ended up paying a terrible exchange rate. Only found out too late once using my card as it did not allow me the usual option to chose to pay in EUR or local currency in the next step. In the receipt it said I declined the Mastercard rate which of course I know 100% I did not so this could be considered fraudulent. As those who are travel savvy will know the merchant/restaurant benefits from this. Am unsure if this is a honest mistake as I have eaten out at many places in Mao/Mahon without this issue. However if this is not the case if you the owner are reading this please stop doing this to trick future tourists to gain a little more euros. Such a shame as it ruined what could had been a great experience. Fellow tourists not saying don't go there as do not want to ruin a small business as mentioned the food and service is very good but please ensure if paying by card the machine...

Food looked amazing and I wanted to eat there and I was standing to wait to be acknowledged/seated as there were two tables without a reserved sign. The lady saw me and walked towards me without acknowledging me (must have looked american and didn’t want to seat me) then I went outside to see other options and attempted to come back again. There was one party in front and they also had to wait but she came over and acknowledged them and gave there a table. There was one left without a reserved sign and all of a sudden she says sorry the last table went and i asked about the other one without a sign and all of a sudden she says it’s reserved and puts a sign on the table.
