It’s not just about the food: How to lose a customer!

I won’t be going back. The menu looked promising and the food was decent — in fact, I chose this place because I had fond memories of a visit a few years ago. But today, the service was poor from the very start. As someone who loves dining out, I value good food, but any foodie knows a restaurant is nothing without good service. Sadly, tonight the service completely ruined the experience. When I arrived, I was told to wait while they cleaned the table. Fair enough. But after the plates and glasses from the previous diners were cleared, no one actually cleaned it for over 10 minutes… so we ended up doing it ourselves. Ordering was another struggle. Waiters passed by again and again without stopping. When I asked for the wine list, I got a look of surprise. Eventually we had to flag someone down, and when we asked if we could order, his reply was: “Well… okay.” The food took a while — understandable on a busy summer evening — but the real low point came at the end. Wow! What an experience. We absolutely loved every dish we were served at Candela. From the very first oyster dish, which was served with flavours completely different from anything I've seen before, we knew we had stumbled upon something special. If you are adventurous and fancy high-quality ingredients served beautifully, then you will not be disappointed. Some standout dishes were the red mullet, lobster, and bone marrow (wow...just wow). Plus, we asked for their suggestions for wine pairings, and they served us some of the most interesting and delicious wines we've had on any trip. Proper fabric table cloths and a passion for the food from our waiter! Really lovely food and fantastic service, our waiter took time to explain everything on the menu and then we were looked after perfectly with every dish served tasting exceptional. All the team were attentive with dishes being cleared as quickly as they were eaten. We had various tapas dishes and a dish from the specials - Lamb Shank, which was beautifully explained by our waiter and enjoyed even more by the four of us.
