Colombian Flavors in Madrid
Aguapanela, nestled in the heart of Madrid at 26 San Marcos Street, is a culinary gem offering authentic Colombian flavors. It was my first foray into Colombian cuisine, recommended by a Colombian friend. The "Amazonic" salad was a delightful start, featuring a refreshing mix of lettuce, grilled chicken, avocado, passion fruit, mango, and a maracuyá dressing that awakened my taste buds. The "Café con Aroma de Mujer" cocktail was truly a revelation, with its intriguing blend of coffee, rum, and cinnamon. And let's not forget the dessert - the Oblea, which was the highlight of my Aguapanela experience. Served with cream, dulce de leche, cheese, and a passion fruit mousse, every bite was a delight, offering a perfect harmony of flavors and textures that left a sweet memory on my palate. The service was impeccable, with friendly and attentive staff who made my visit even more enjoyable. A special thanks to Hernán for his exceptional service. In summary, Aguapanela is a place where Colombian flavors come to life in the heart of Madrid. It's a must-visit for any food lover, offering a truly authentic taste of Colombia that will leave you...
Read moreAMAZING. That is the one word I can use to describe this place. The design, plating and flavours all combine to make this fine, fine establishment an 11/10. As a half Colombian myself, I was pleasantly surprised to see the slightly odd - but not unwelcome - presentation which happens to be vastly different to the norm. As it happens, we were strolling down the street when we saw it and it was lovely - from the name to the decor on the outside I knew this was the place to dine tonight. For our first course, we ordered some traditional small dishes and were suddenly brought some simple lemonade (water, a bit of sugar and a few slices of lemon) as a tribute to the name of the place and some brioche, all complementary. The staff were friendly and precise, just the right combination of chatty and polite to make you really feel at home. The decor was designed by the owner, and it is rather special. It encompasses just about everything about Colombian culture and is very vibrant. We were also visited by the owner, who spoke to us regarding the restaurant and its backstory. As of today, it has been roughly one month...
Read moreI took my wife here for our final meal in Spain before going home tomorrow. She ordered pork, I ordered veal and together we ordered some ceviche as an appetizer.
After the female waiter took our order we did not see her again until she brought the bill. A male server brought the food and my wife’s pork came out but mine was MIA. I’ve never had veal before so I wasn’t sure how long it took to prepare and figured it would come out after. It didn’t and the next person we saw was the female server.
My wife did have a couple fancy drinks so the bill was $80 euros. Never in my life have I spent so much to leave so hungry. The female server apologized but it was a real let down for our last meal in Spain.
The cerviche was decent but overall I was disappointed as there was no offer to comp us anything so it could have...
