Calway Station — Restaurant in Madrid

Absolutely dire experience, I am actually quite annoyed with it and have no idea why there is a high rating here?!

Firstly, to call themselves an Irish bar is an insult to Irish people - nothing about this bar was Irish but the Guinness they serve and a strange decor that to be frank could've been themed to any train station in any country from the 1940's. It's an utter disgrace and incredibly misleading to say it's Irish.

The Pro's: The bathroom clean enough albeit tiny. Huge queue for the ladies, assume they only had one cubicle too.

It was busy. I can only assume it's due to lack of other bars and pubs in a walking vicinity, feel sorry for the locals, they deserve better.

The Con's: I could be here all night so I'll keep it to the two main points.

The service: utterly horrendous. Waiting staff that looked like they didn't want to be there. Took us 30 mins (that's no exaggeration at all, infact it could've been more) to get our first round of drinks. You know the night is going to be bad when you actually cheer with delight when the drinks come out! All night the service was slow and utterly amateurish. Meals coming out separately one by one at 5-10 minute intervals, trying to get service for drinks was like trying to draw blood from a stone.

Tip: Double up on drinks (buy two instead of one) so you don't spend long periods of time staring into your empty glass.

The food. Utter pits. Irish? No, the entire menu is Spanish. You can't even get a menu in English or staff member who speaks English. Even the Spanish food they couldn't get right - tapas with dry stale bread and strange tasting ham. Paid 10 euros for sirloin steak which was actually medallions, served with the most depressing salad and a lone tomato. No fries. Had I have known from the menu it wouldn't have fries (fries come as STANDARD) I would've ordered it as a side. See my comments re: service as to why I didn't ask when it arrived. The medallions were bathed in salt, bordering on inedible but I skipped lunch so had no choice but endure it. Even my friends burger was a mess - undercooked patty and burnt bread, if you can't cook a burger properly it's a sad day.

Tip: Don't eat. Eat before you arrive.

I would thoroughly recommend avoiding the place. If you are looking specifically for a good traditional Irish go somewhere else. James Joyce near Retiro Park in the centre of Madrid is a prime example of an Irish bar - extensive beers/ciders and hey, guess what, Irish food (such as Sausages & Mash, Fish & Chips, Irish Stew, I could go on). You won't also be bombarded with shamrocks as they aren't mutton dressing as lamb, or a woeful Spanish bar trying in vain to be Irish.

29/07/2017 5 Estrellas Jalapeños, alitas barbacoa, papas al brie con bacon. Buenisimo. Nuevamente numerosos aperitivos con la bebida. Me pedi cerveza de cereza, estaba buenisima. La atencion de la chica q nos atendio de 10.

16/12/2016 5 Estrellas. Jalapeños, tabla de salchichas, papas al brie con bacon, hamburguesas, fajitas con pollo, riquisimo. La tarta de manzana espectacular. Nuevamente los gin tonic muy bien servidos. La atencion de los camareros nuevamente muy buena. 30/07/2016 5 Estrellas. Jalapeños, tabla de ahumados, Delicias de pollo, Papas al bacon, increibles, deliciosos. La atención de los camareros muy buena. Los mojitos muy buenos y el gin tonic, muy bien servido. Volveremos. 23/07/2016 4 Estrellas. Segunda vez. Nuevamente no defraude a los amigos con los que fuí. Que xq no les habia traido antes me dijeron. Se fueron para Las Rozas muy satisfechos. Alucinaron con los aperitivos de las primeras cervezas. Las raciones y canapes en especial el de mojama muy buenas. Los camareros nuevamente muy bien, quitando a uno, pero vamos. Un grano no va a estropear la montaña. Aunque se merecen las 5 estrellas, seguiremos con las 4. La semana q viene VOLVERE. 02/07/2016 4 Estrellas. Era la primera vez q ibamos. Llegamos un sabado a las 0:30 directamente del aeropuerto y pensabamos q no nos servirian cena por la hora. Nos pusieron de cenar y nos tomamos unos mojitos q estaban increible de buenos.
