Nestled in the heart of Madrid, Restaurante Los Montes de Galicia offers an unforgettable dining experience that masterfully blends traditional Spanish flavors with modern culinary artistry. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with warmth, elegance, and a touch of old-world charm.
They don’t enforce dress codes ( making the guests feeling uneasy) as we were pretty causally dressed and still were given a very warm welcome unlike some French restaurant that wanted to enforce their style upon us.
One of the standout elements of our visit was the exceptional service, led by Juan Jose, whose expertise and passion for his work truly elevated our meal. He had the patience of a saint while answering our questions and as well us going back and forth with our choices and he didn’t bat an eyelid nor roll his eyes, a true hallmark of an exceptional host.
He didn’t just serve us, he shared the ingredients behind each dish with such enthusiasm that it felt like we were partaking in a gastronomic journey through Galicia itself. It definitely made our experience that much more enriching.
The menu at Los Montes de Galicia is a celebration of the best that Galicia has to offer, with some delightful twists.
We began with the pulled croaker with citrus sauce and flying fish caviar a beautifully balanced dish, with the light and delicate fish complemented by the tangy citrus and the burst of flavor from the caviar. It was a refreshing start that set the tone for the meal.
We followed that with a salad of crab, tomato, and avocado mousse with black trumpet fish roe, which was a vibrant, refreshing combination. The sweetness of the crab, the creamy avocado mousse, and the saltiness of the roe made for a wonderfully layered and exciting dish. Absolutely loved it.
The sole with lemon butter followed, a classic done to perfection silky, tender fish in a luscious butter sauce that was both rich and light at the same time along with the sautéed peppers and onions made it fun to chomp through. Juan was kind enough to clean it for us and made it for a fun eating exercise.
Then, there was the cod in mayonnaise slab over a bed of spinach, which was both inventive and delicious. The cod was perfectly cooked, flaking beautifully under the creamy mayonnaise, and the spinach ( dehydrated and crisped) added a subtle earthiness that grounded the dish.
To end the evening, we indulged in the Galician cheesecake, which was nothing short of heavenly. The rich, velvety texture of the cheesecake was perfectly balanced with a tangy sweetness. It was served with a homemade confit of passion fruit that added an exotic touch, bringing a burst of tropical flavor that paired wonderfully with the creaminess of the dessert.
All in all a job very well done to the chefs and cooks at Los Montes de Galicia !!
If you're ever in Madrid and want to experience authentic Galician cuisine in an upscale yet inviting setting, Los Montes de Galicia is an absolute must visit.

Read moreMade a reservation online a few months in advance for Christmas Day dinner. Had to pay a $40 deposit to secure the tables and this was subtracted from the total bill. I arrived and was promptly seated. They gave us some bread with hummus. Galician octopus- large portion, light in taste since it’s primarily just the oil and the paprika is a nice addition. Personally I like to add salt to this dish since it is typically lightly seasoned. Scallops sashimi- good taste and fresh, which is important for scallop sashimi. No fishy or briny taste. Their fruity and spicy sauce is a nice addition. Big red prawn- biggest prawn I have ever eaten in my life. Larger than my hand and it’s the size of a small lobster. Lightly grilled and seasoned. Great shrimp taste, but at the end of the day it’s a similar taste to regular sized prawns. Ribs- very tender and fall off the bone. Great sauce and potatoes to pair with it. However, lightly seasoned so I added salt to it. Galician cheesecake- it’s more of the cream part of a cheesecake and not much of the thicker cake part. Good taste though, not too sweet and the passion fruit drizzle on the side adds a lot of great contrast. Herbal cocktail- this was their end of meal cocktail offering. It was herbal and melon liqueur and some other juices. A bit of a strange taste that I’m not familiar with and could taste the alcohol so it was a bit strong. Not my favorite but interesting. Service was great all night and I loved the decor and ambience. Main issue was the restroom being so small for a large restaurant. They provided me with a gift at the end of the night- a bottle of their own in-house white wine. Grateful for their hospitality. Overall a great experience. It is on the outskirts of Madrid so it takes a 30 minute bus ride from the city center to get there. The total was around 160€ for 2 people so definitely a pricer meal but I did get quite...
