Dinner Review – Astoria Brasserie, Marbella
We had dinner yesterday at Astoria Brasserie in Marbella and, unfortunately, our experience did not live up to expectations.
Ambience: The outdoor area looked beautiful and much more inviting, with wide, comfortable lounge chairs — sadly, we were seated indoors near the kitchen. Despite being a group of four, we were given a small table clearly designed for two. The setting was cramped, and a candle placed in the middle of the table only added to the inconvenience. The chairs reminded us more of a train station waiting room than a stylish brasserie, and overall, we felt quite uncomfortable — more like in a budget bar than a high-end establishment.
Service: The staff were undeniably attractive and professional, with a high level of courtesy. However, the service was rushed and intrusive. Our waitress interrupted our conversation several times with unnecessary questions, making it difficult to relax and enjoy each other’s company.
The tableside preparation of meat with large open flames felt unnecessary and even dangerous — hot fat splattered on guests, and the open fire was worrying in such tight space. Our food was served across multiple plates on a table that barely had room for them.
As someone with food intolerances, I was disappointed by the lack of suitable options. I was offered a dish with fillet, but what I received were two dry slices of meat resembling shoe leather, and two plates of plain leaves with no dressing or olive oil. Everything lacked flavor — even the meat was tough and unseasoned.
My friends had different meals, but none of them were particularly impressed either.
Overall: In a place that attracts a truly international clientele, the menu felt poorly thought-out. Today, many people are intolerant to dairy, gluten, or nuts. The restaurant should consider adapting its menu to be more inclusive — offering dairy-free, gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options would be a thoughtful improvement.
For a dinner that cost over €500 for four people — without any starters and just one bottle of wine (priced at €110) — the experience was not worth it. Thankfully, we had great company, which helped salvage what was otherwise a disappointing...
Read moreBrasserie Astoria delivered an experience that effortlessly surpassed every expectation. We dined as a group of eight, were seated on the most inviting terrace table—intimate, atmospheric, and a perfect prelude to what followed.
Astoria’s menu reads with confident elegance, and we approached it with purpose—tasting broadly to appreciate the full scope of its offering. Standouts included the richly layered Astoria Toast, perfectly cooked Gambas, delicate Spanish beef carpaccio, and the indulgent Truffle Pizza. Yet the dish that lingered in collective memory—a clear favourite—was the Grilled veal minute, bathed in browned lemon butter: nuanced, balanced, and deeply satisfying. We found ourselves discussing it long after the plates were cleared.
Service was impeccable—attentive without intrusion. Lucas, in particular, was outstanding in his care. And credit must go to Robin, the General Manager, and the entire team for orchestrating an evening that felt effortless in its excellence.
With pitch-perfect ambiance, a well-paced rhythm, and pricing that honours the quality of both food and experience, Brasserie Astoria proves itself not only worthy of its reputation—but quietly...
Read moreI frequent Astoria in Stockholm on a regular basis so was curious to try this one. Space is beautiful! Welcoming and large terrace, more fun and frills than the more paired back Stockholm sibling. Staff is LOVELY. Every person we interacted with was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Food, as always, excellent but I wish there was a more local twist to it. My hope is that it will come as they are just launching the restaurant and the gambas and fish we had were some of the best we’ve had. Also do not miss out on the Rockefeller oysters! With that said, it’s pretty much the same menu as in Stockholm. I also think the restaurant needs to decide on what it wants to be. The crowd coming in was quite mixed but around 10 the club/lounge music grew much louder to the point that it was disturbing conversation. Maybe it’s supposed to be a late night spot for the Puerto Banus crowd but coming in for dinner I’d def prefer something more chill playing in the background, the ambiance did not need to be more hyped up than it was. All and all, some small tweaks, but great place, excellent across the board and would...
