Bocarte Restaurante — Restaurant in Mijas

This restaurant was recommended by a friend living in La Cala. Not only was she right on the night the restaurant exceeded my expectations. I rocked up on my own without a reservation. I was immediately welcomed and given a table from which I had a great view of the whole place. Lots of people showed up without a booking and everyone was warmly welcomed and accepted. The service was worthy of an award. Waiters were attentive, gave great advice and were in full control of the place. Despite their being only 2 waiters initially, they covered the big crowd seamlessly. No one was left waiting for anything and often a nod was enough to order a drink. The menu prices looked great value so I felt inclined to order 3 tapas. Omg the portions were very big and the food was delicious. Along with the complimentary olives and hummus toasts I struggled to finish it all. My advise is to definitely give this place a shot. It has great food, fantastic value for money and the best service I have seen for a long time. €32 got 2large beers, olives, hummus toasts and 3 large tapas. Best value ever. Food was nice but this is a modern tapas restaurant. Slightly disappointing when we found that they don't have fried squid or fried octopus or grilled sardines which I thought should be the standard tapas. Portion was small. They gave a table for 4 then gave us a lantern which pretty much took big chunk of the table. They need to invest in bigger tables if they want to keep using the same lantern. Oh and don't order the prawns, they only give you 2 small ones. Yes only 2.

Extremely disappointed as we were so looking forward to dining at this restaurant. The service was extremely slow, we waited over one hour from eating the starters to four out of the five main courses arriving. My fish dish eventually arrived after having to chase the waiter, approx 7 or 8 minutes later. I took a couple of mouthfuls and it was so dry, as if it had been in the pan for a lifetime.
