The service at this restaurant is mediocre. Waiters are extremely keen to accept food orders shortly after drinks are served. An attitude of, "drink, eat and move along, we have more customers waiting." It is definitely a strenuous experience having waiters constantly asking to take your order. One simply cannot relax and enjoy the ambiance and experience. Strangely, once we had completed our meal, the flies moved in and invaded the leftovers - our plates were not removed until a firm summons was directed towards any waiter willing to assist with table clearance.
The food: only average! Order prawns and the digestive tract on the back is intact, resulting in a bitter and gritty prawn. This "vein" should always be removed! True connoisseurs of this wonderful seafood delicacy, will not appreciate this vile serving of digested food material and sand.
Basically, this restaurant is nothing more than a glorified beach bar, overrated and survives purely on reputation and a false perception, judging from the glowing ratings penned by people who do not have the remotest idea what quality food is all about, or do not have the power of their convictions to provide a true and honest review/rating.
The cost: over the top! Obviously, a tourist trap to milk holidaymakers, to enable the restaurant owners to survive the period of closure during the winter months (Make hay while the sun shines). People are entitled to profits for service and quality. Exorbitant prices, coupled with indifferent service, gives an impression of dubious intentions.
Nope, not for me. Chiringuito El Capricho leaves a poor taste in the mouth (literally) and has left a poor impression. Royal Beach up the boardwalk, provides a far superior dining and bang for your buck experience. No, I will...
Read moreWe really wanted to enjoy our evening here because it is a lovely location beside the sea. Unfortunately we were very disappointed with the food. I ordered the fried cod and chips. It arrived very quickly and consisted of 4 pieces of soggy battered fish that did not appear to be freshly cooked. I brought it to the attention of the staff member - no apology was issued and he removed the plate. The waitress who took our order came over and told me that if we wanted the fried fish to be crispy we should have specified! She said many people do not like crispy fried fish and so they make it like the way it was served. Honestly, I found this explanation very hard to believe. I have eaten a lot of fish and chips in a lot of restaurants and I have never been served soggy battered fish. Fish served as part of fish and chips is always crispy and in order to achieve this must be freshly cooked. When our bill came, 10% discount was applied which was a very small gesture for a dish that cost €19! I cannot comment on the other dishes available but I would definitely not recommend the fish and chips. Our last meal in Calahonda was unfortunately spoilt by our...
Read moreDearest gentle reader,
A bit dissapointed is how I can best describe this lovely place at the beach. The food was, just to say ok. Some dishes like the calamares were not good, not soft at all. Some other dishes were okay and all desserts were just store bought products put onto a plate. Unfortunatly nothing that stands out or to come back for. The service was rather unfriendly, not a single smile to see here and other staff members did a great combo of cleaning beach seats in the front and spending some time cleaning their feet and socks and after that returning back into the kitchen. Not to tasty for my opinion. I can only give it a 3 stars rating, it is okay to just fill up the stomagh if near and no other options around but definitly for me not worth a ride to go there if you have other options...
