Having travelled to different countries and resorts, we decided to visit Mijas Pueblo. We booked through Jet 2 holidays. As our flight was delayed we arrived at the hotel around 11:30pm and were checked in by a pleasant female receptionist who told us the bar would be open until 12:30am. We went to our room, unpacked and went to bar then returned to room to retire for the night around 12:40am. At some point during the night my wife was aware of what sounded like a sliding door and subsequent noises.Having read reviews on hotel saying that soundproofing between bedrooms was poor, she assumed it was coming from adjacent room. In the morning after showering, she went to put on her watch, bracelet and earrings which she had placed on the dressing table the previous night. She was stunned to find her watch, bracelet and one earring missing! It suddenly dawned on her that someone had entered our room via the balcony door which we had never opened as it was dark on our arrival. So obviously it had been left unlocked by whoever had been in the room before we arrived. I can only assume by the maid. The thought that someone had been in our room was shocking. We immediately reported this to a male receptionist who said nothing like this had happened in his nine years of being there. He wrote the details on a piece of paper and said he would report this to police and management who I assumed would contact us. We spoke to our Jet 2 rep that evening and she was appalled and informed us that it had happened to another guest. She was very helpful and understanding and we told her that we had informed the hotel and we were expecting to hear from police and management. We were never approached by either. When our rep enquired at reception all she was told was that they had both been informed. I am disgusted at the total disrespect and lack of empathy from the hotel as we got no formal apology. After being told by the male receptionist we would receive our safe free of charge, on checking out, he tried to charge us, completely forgetting about the whole incident! Of course the hotel doesn’t want this negative information to come out but surely they have to deal with this in a professional manner. This completely spoiled our holiday. My jewellery had sentimental value and cannot be replaced. We slept with a light on for the remainder of our holiday as my wife was traumatised that someone had been in our room. I am writing this as a warning to others and to let you know that security in the area of the hotel we were in, seems to be lacking. Room 213 overlooking tennis court and public car park. Is in complete darkness overnight. Our stay was from 19th June. On the plus side Mijas Pueblo is a beautiful town but unfortunately our experience completely...
Read moreJust returned today from a wonderful holiday in Mijas. We stayed in this hotel for 10 nights and loved every minute of it. The Location was fantastic. Turn left at the the top of the steps outside the hotel and you can wander down to Mijas village and all the amazing restaurants, shops, town squares, and tourist attractions. The hotel is in an excellent position. The views from the dining room, bar and bar areas are amazing. Outside the hotel there is a bus stop where you can get the bus down to the coastal resorts and beyond. |ROOM - We opted for a superior room and it had the most amazing views. It was room 310 and located at the back of the hotel. It had a balcony with table and chairs and I loved sitting out there taking in the views. It was a decent size room with large comfy beds and pillows (2 large singles put together). It had a Bath and shower over the bath. Powerful shower. Lovely hot water. Shampoo/shower gel and conditioner provided. Towels provided are a bit thin, but perfectly adequate. Pool towels were good. You paid a deposit for the duration of use which was refunded on departure or return of towels. |The room was cleaned every day and towels changed. Housekeeping staff are hardworking, helpful, efficient and polite. |DECOR|The hotel does have Dated decor throughout. It is traditional Spanish. Lots of Dark wood furniture and paintings . I loved the bar area with the sofas and chairs and where you could sit out on the balconies and take in the spectacular views. Yes for some of you the hotel might feel a little dated but for me this added to the charm and I loved it. It makes a pleasant change from ultra modern which we normally like. |POOL AREA|The pool area, gardens and pool bar are immaculate and very well maintained The pool is very clean. I swam in the pool every day and the water was a lovely temperature for swimming and cooling down. The food at the pool bar was decent and the pool staff great. Always smiling and happy to help. At times they were very busy, but you didn't have long to wait for food.|RESTAURANT-|Staff are hard working and are kept very busy. Always polite and friendly.|Breakfast - excellent. Good range of food and choices.|Dinner - we only ate in the restaurant once in the evening. It was Buffet style. Good choice of food. No complaints. We just prefer to try all the different restaurants in the village in the evening of which there are many and of a high standard.|RECEPTION-|Check in and check out seamless. Reception staff are excellent very helpful and efficient. ||Overall an excellent holiday in a great hotel and I would...
Read moreJust back from a very relaxing, chilled out week at Hotel Mijas. I stayed bed and breakfast in a superior twin room with a sea view. Because the hotel is built on a hill with reception being the 'top' floor, most of the rooms are then lower than reception and further down the hill. Which means that although I had a sea view I was lower down the hill and closer to the tennis courts and an external car park. I mention only to highlight the difference with other hotels as usually the rooms with sea view will be higher up. The room was spacious and clean and I slept well with the bed being very comfortable and it was generally quiet and peaceful. The balcony was large and I enjoyed sitting out every day. As other reviewers have mentioned the hotel is showing signs of wear and tear and in need of renovation in some areas. The staff are wonderful, very hard working and efficient and generally all very friendly and welcoming. I had one issue with my bathroom whilst staying and reported it to reception at 9am and by the time I went back to my room at 1pm it was fixed. I think the hotel was full for the latter part of my stay and there was still plenty of space at breakfast, the pool and sunbathing areas were fully occupied but it seemed like everyone who wanted a sun lounger got one. So it was great not to have 'sun bed wars' or to have to get to the pool early to ensure you had a lounger. People are arriving and checking out daily so loungers always became available at random points during the day too. The pool bar restaurant area was very busy at points but I always got a table when I wanted one. I loved the size of the pool and swam a few times a day. I think this hotel is best suited to couples or solo travelers who are looking for a very quiet, chilled out, relaxed holiday. There were a few families with children there during my stay but it's not a place I would recommend for families as there is limited space around the pool and the pool itself is not large enough for children to be splashing about and playing games in without disturbing the adults who are trying to swim or just cool off. I had breakfast every day - it was buffet style and a good overall version of a hotel breakfast buffet. I ate at the pool bar for lunch quite a few days and the food was good with very generous portions. I did not have dinner at the hotel but did hear a few other guests saying that it was good. Overall I loved my stay there and would probably have given 5 star review if not for the renovation work needed. I would book to...
