I love Mijas Peublo. A wonderful typical mountain village white washed with quaint homes and home to a beautiful traditional community.
Previous trips I’ve visited Alacon which is located just around a few minutes away; however due to this being closed Thursdays we opted for this place.
Restaurant El Niño, like the village feels a mirror of quintessential southern Spain. Locals sitting st the bar tucking into tapas, black and white family portraits wrapping the walls and imagine family owned.
Since we eaten WAY too much over the past 4 days we decided to take it easy. We ordered: ~Mini Hamburgers in mushroom sauce ~Serrano Ham ~Machego Cheese ~Clams in garlic. My Spanish is non existent so deposit pointing these out on the menu we ended up being given : ~Fried Calamari ~Spicy sausage pil-pil and no clams or Serrano. Perhaps they decided these would be best/ they were incredible.
I can’t fault this place. The value for money is incredible. I had a beer and large glass of the BEST red wine and with a 4 decent sized taps this came to 26€. They even gave complimentary aioli and bread.
Don’t come here for posh nosh but to have traditional incredible value food.

Read moreWaiter was rude. He got sit us to different chair for two, even when the place was empty in second flor into the corner instead of nice view. (We came quite late for lunch) We asked for drink list with price. He refused to bring us that and did not explain what drinks do they have and he was very arrogant that we don’t know some local specific drink names.
The pasta was slightly undercooked, but the taste was good. The price was reasonable, but the experience would have been much better with a drinks menu and more respectful behavior toward tourists. I do not recommend this place for visitors — it was supposed to be a nice end to our trip in beautiful Mijas, but unfortunately, we didn’t have...
Read moreWhat an excellent find. We asked the tourism office for recommendations where locals would go and very quietly (he did not want to appear to favour any one restaurant), he gave us a few suggestions with El Nino being his favourite.
We had the very reasonable 9Euro lunch with appetizer (bread soup or tomato salad), a main dish and a simple dessert. With a cold beer on a hot day, it was perfect. The pictures speak for themselves. BTW, it's on the outskirts of town and a bit hard to find...
