For English tourists.
I am English, from Preston Lancashire. My Fiancée and I ate here, and it was the most surprising hidden gem of a Chinese we've eaten at. It even beat the taste of Chinese at home.
We were sat at a table as soon as we got there, and their English is perfect. They did say they needed their table by 9 but that gave us 3 hours which wasn't a rush.
We had the chicken and veg spring rolls to start, it's like 3.50 for two so we got four, and these aren't normal rolls. They are massive and we'll worth it as a mini starter.
I then had the Lamb tenderloin in black pepper sauce and 3 way rice, and my Fiancée had the shredded duck and pancakes. Mine was perfect in every way and it gave me a second portion as well, due to how much is there. The duck was a whole new level, it was an entire duck and maybe 12 or 15 mini pancakes.
We had two cokes each, and complimentary poppadoms. I was shocked at the price as it was €52 for two of us for starters, mains and drinks.
This restraunt is a go to, it's perfect in every way, the staff are brilliant and it's cheap in price.
But it does get busier 19:30hrs onwards so plan...
Read moreHave eaten at the Slow Boat many times over the years and I would happily have recommended it as one of, if not the best, Chinese restaurants in the area. Unfortunately tonight was a bit of a disappointment. The service was excellent as it always is, courteous and quick. The first course, crispy duck was as good as always and the best I have had here or in the UK however, the second course was not so good. I always have the crispy shredded beef with chilli and this time the food arrived barely warm and far from crispy. I mentioned this and the dish was taken back to the kitchen and came back hot but it just did not taste as I remember it. When the meal was finished we got towels to wash our hands with, one was white and the other grey (I think it was supposed to be white) and they both had food stains on them. Maybe we were unlucky or maybe they have such good reviews they don’t need to try so hard but either way, there are other restaurants in the area which on this experience are better and definitely worth a look. Disappointing as previously I have always enjoyed the food at...
Read moreI don’t know where to begin, with the food or the experience overall. My boyfriend and I were only staying in Calahonda for 5 days but we came back here twice cause it was that great. I didn’t mind the wonton soup but the chicken egg drop soup was way better (and the best I’ve had) so I ordered it on the second night. I would recommend the lemon chicken, special/mix rice (the meat were so tender and juicy), Singapore noodles, crispy honey chilli chicken. The sizzling seafood had a lot of variety, octopus, fish, prawns, mussels, and veg, but I felt the sauce could have been spicier. But the star of the show was definitely the banana fritters with ice cream, reminded me of my favourite stall back in Malaysia, great ice cream too. Cheesecake was nice and rich. Very happy and attentive staff, always smiling. Given hot towels at the end of the meal. And also a complementary shot of your choice after paying. We are definitely coming back here again if we happen to pass by Calahonda in...
