Monaco Mar — Restaurant in Mogán

We have just returned from a disappointing meal at Monaco Mar, I am reviewing so hopefully this will be read and people’s experiences in the high season will be better than ours as we feel like we wasted our money this evening. The evening began to take a turn when guests who arrived 10/15 minutes after us received their main meals before we received our starters (we had 2 hungry children with us). I realised my starter had been brought out to another guest but taken back to the kitchen when they realised it was incorrect. This was then brought back out to me about 10 minutes later along with basic starters for the rest of the family (garlic bread and bruschetta) that took over 30mins to arrive, we had clearly been forgotten about. I mentioned to the waiter that I was aware my starter had been taken back out to the kitchen and he said not to worry there had been an error in the kitchen. This suggested to me that there would be a gesture for this due to it sitting in the kitchen for so long - I was charged the full cost. The main meals then came out straight after the starters and were underwhelming. We asked for cod and chips for my son - not sliced potatoes and vegetables. He didn’t get what he ordered, and with no interaction from the waitress we just ate what we could and asked for the bill. The meal cost €104 which was €10 more than a lovely meal at the harbour last night. We paid the full amount as we wanted to be fair to the owner as we imagine it’s tough running a business like this, but there was no gesture from the waitress even when we expressed our disappointment. THE BEST RESTAURANT ON GRAN CANARIA!! We visited this outstanding restaurant twice during our week holiday - we might just have to go again tonight!! Not only were the Padron Peppers a revelation, the dry aged rib eye steak was the best steak I've ever had (effortlessly carved at the table with hot stone...come on, it doesn't get better that that!!), and my wife's steak was also faultless. The attention to detail offered here is unrivalled. The second visit was our tex-mex night - equally delicious with the attentive staff ensuring we had everything we needed on both visits. The sizzling fajitas arrived and were again the best we've ever eaten, along with my wife's Quesadilla - surprisingly authentic flavours!! But it's the level of hospitality that sets this restaurant apart - smiling, friendly staff enjoying themselves working well together, making sure we felt at home as soon as we arrived, so we had no choice but to return. But its also refreshing to meet professional restaurant staff who obviously have such passionate pride in all that they do - not only reminding us of the quality of their produce but also the unmatched dedication they strive for customer satisfaction. Monaco Mar is an excellent restaurant. We've popped in 3 nights out of 6 so far, and reckon there'll be quite a few more visits. It's always lovely to visit the restaurants by the beach and marina but the staff at Monaco Mar create such an amazing atmosphere, location does not matter. The food is fresh, delicious and well presented. As a family of 5, I always hope the portions v's value will be enough, and so far they've been perfect. I always try to pop inside to shout out a thank you to the chefs. They're hidden away, but are the skilled hands that make the great food. The front of house staff are amazing. They made us feel very welcome and take time to have a quick laugh with their guests, even though they are very busy. They have a very cool guy playing piano and singing the coolest of tunes. He's as smooth as they come and helps create the great atmosphere. We arrived late on a Saturday night looking for somewhere to eat. It was after 10pm but they had no hesitation in taking us in and serving us top quality food. Thanks for making week one of our holiday so great. Lots more visits in week two!!
