A hidden traditional Indian treat
Don't be fooled by its setback location and inconspicuous appearance, inside it's a real jem, clean and elegant.
Sat outside on the terrace my wife and I (31 and 37) were presented with our menus and asked what drinks we'd like.
The menu for which you'd be a custom with at most UK Balti Restaurants. Specials were minimal, mainly chicken yet reading tastily. We opted for two traditional Indian mains, dishes for which we have had in many Indian restaurants over the years, Lamb tikka Balti and Pathia.
Sipping our drinks in the early evening sun, the sizzling sound of food arrived at our table.
Balti in a skillet and Pathia in a deep dish. Chana masala sprinkled with onions, a large amount of mushroom rice and to our surprise a home made peshwari naan and samosa.
Now, The only place I've ever had homemade naan is in Fiji. In the UK we seem to be presented with silver foiled prepacked doughy naan. This was anything but. Light, slightly crispy and very tasty when dipped into the Pathia
The samosa too had a beautifully textured and flavoursome filling surrounded by a light pastry free from grease that UK Indian food eaters are so used to.
Back to the mains. Mouthwatering. Balti with some heat that slowly built in your mouth. Lamb tender and flavoursome. The onions and peppers expertly caramelised giving the dish a real sweat and smokey taste.
Pathia so tangy and citrusy with tamarind. At first I wondered where the heat was, Pathia should be both sour and heat, the chilli came after a few bites. Not overpowering heat, a perfect balance and the peshwari naan just worked harmoniously with both mains.
The rice we barely touched, not because it wasn't good, but because the naan was huge and such a lovely surprise it seemed a shame to waste.
An absolute delight of a meal, with one large beer and two Cokes, €45, I thought was a bargain.
Well done to your chef.
4 star, the only reason is because there were no fish dishes on the menu other than Prawn. Indian fish curry can often be absolutely incredible. Picky maybe, but then I'm...
Read moreThis restaurant was recommended, It wasn't too busy.. We were seated and after a few minutes a drinks order was taken . They forgot one drink after 10 minutes the bottle of water arrived. Once we ordered food , appetizers arrived after 25 mins ( poppadoms) After almost an hour and 15 mins our Main course arrived. 6 people ordered, 3 dishes were left uneaten . 2x Tandoori chicken tikka was inedible, extremely dry , flavored with BBQ , Chilly chicken bland and tasteless . Overall , very disappointed, the waiters just weren't interested. Very unprofessional.
Also the wine ,there was floaters in the glass and the bottle you could clearly see they Not fresh bottles of wine . They still demanded payment for inedible food. After a stand off they agreed to take off €11 for one Chicken Tikka. All 3 people in our group have all felt queasy today . We have been to some amazing Indian restaurants all over the world but this place was an absolute disgrace. The staff were very rude and unprofessional. The restaurant itself is very clean and beautiful inside . Ladies toilets - very easy for the door to be opened! Not great when someone walks in . Overall really...
