Cokkia Mojácar — Restaurant in Mojácar

I am a tourist, visiting a friend who lives in Spain. She has been here before and said we MUST come here one evening. We reserved a table around lunchtime and we arrived at 9pm. The restaurant has a beautiful outdoor dining area, with trees throughout the courtyard and a net to limit the impact of the local birds 😆 Both myself and my friend were hit by friendly fire, but I'm taking that as a sign of good luck! We ordered the croquettes and house salad for starter, followed by sirloin steak and dogfish skewer for mains. When I say these were exquisite, I really mean it. The dogfish was crazy value for €10, with a citrus burst and hints of curry. My steak was cooked to med-rare perfection without even asking me how I like it, served on a hot stone with homemade chips, and it was melt-in-the-mouth tender. The restaurant soon filled up to provide a bustling but relaxed atmosphere and the lighting outside, coupled with the soft music coming from inside, provided the perfect ambience. Service was impeccable, from arrival through service, to our departure, friendly and welcoming, unlike some places I have encountered. My friend speaks great Spanish and the staff speak great English so there were no issues with communication either way. No doubt even an ignorant guy like me could order comfortably without feeling like a fool. If I was here longer, I would come...

Went for dinner earlier this week. We were given menu’s and i asked if everything was available, which they said it was.

So we ordered a drink whilst we looked at the menu.

There was then a bit of excitement when a large Centipede ( about 3-4 inches long) fell out of the tree which covers the outdoor dining area and landed on the floor. The Tree keeps the place cool and is home to lots of birds. It isn’t usually a problem as the dining are is protected by a net. But there is always the risk of things dropping onto the tables below.

We ordered Fish but the waiter then returned to say our order wasn’t available.

So we paid for our drinks and left.

Very pretty venue and great sounding menu but the reality does not live upto it. The most disappointing salad ever. Presentation was nice but in reality 14€ for a bowl of Iceberg lettuce, 2 prawns, a few tiny pieces of avocado. NOT a warm salad as stated. Did complain and was told the chef will do another with less lettuce and more avocado but told them not to bother. Got the impression the chef couldn't take the criticism and a bowl of lettuce is what they consider a salad!!!. Also the hummus and vegetables came with only 4 carrot sticks and 4 bits of cucumber just not enough and took ages. After complaining we seemed to be ignored and couldn't even get another drink. Very disappointing as could of been great....
