Neptuno is just at the bottom of our road and we've passed it every day but never eaten there so Wednesday evening we decided to walk down and have a good fish dinner.

When we arrived there was a sign asking guests to go indoors to be seated. As the evenings are getting cooler this seemed sensible but the ambiance inside isn't anywhere near as nice as it is outside, and given the moon was bright red and had just come up over the horizon, that was a shame.

The lighting inside isn't as attractive and you don't have the sound of the sea, but we decided to order anyway.

I had always assumed this was a fish restaurant so I was surprised the menu only had a small selection of fish options. If you travel a bit further up the coast to Garrucha the fish restaurants there have a huge selection.

I was also surprised to see that the Sea Bass (which is a staple on most menu's here in Mojacar) was €21 which is quite expensive but we both decided to go with that, My partner had hers with Asparagus and I swapped the Asparagus for Chips.

We ordered a bottle of house wine (€12) and a large bottle of water (€2.50) and they delivered Bread and Alioli for which they charged €1 each. This is a common practice in this part of Spain.

When the meal came it looked very attractive but my partners soon realised her fish wasn't cooked and had to send it back, they took it without question and pan fried it to a golden brown to ensure it was fully done. But by the time they had done this, mine was finished.

Mine was fine and the small pot of garlic oil added some additional flavour though there were an awful lot of bones, which had to be picked out by hand. They did provide us with hand wipes after we had finished which was a nice touch.

The Chips were large chunks of potato which I am guessing were pre cooked and then shallow fried though I cant be sure. However, they weren't chips as we would have expected them though they were pleasant enough, but didn't have much flavour.

They offered a complimentary drink at the end of the meal and we both chose Brandy though it was a bit raw and my partner wasn't able to finish hers.

Service was polite but they made no amendment for the uncooked fish.

We ate our meals, drank the wine and left fairly quickly as this wasn't the atmosphere where we would want to linger.

In summary, we were disappointed, there was no atmosphere, it was too expensive and the food was very average.

Sorry to be...

If I could give a negative rating I certainly would! My wife had read some good reviews and we decided to visit this establishment. Firstly we were made to feel uncomfortable because a waiter hovered around us insisting on taking our order. We had to ask her to go away politely. We ordered crispy chicken thighs and prawns in hot oil and garlic for starters. They came out 15 minutes apart. The chicken was raw and the prawns were overcooked and were like rubber. The chicken was sent back and politely refused. My wife struggled through the prawns. We ordered special creamy rice with lobster as a main. To say it was awful is an understatement! The rice was poorly cooked and the lobster was like rubber. I gave up when I could not get my fork into what was probably octopus but anyway they were white squares that were like rubber. My wife soldiered on but when it came to cracking the claws of the lobster, the shell just moved up and down like a deflated inner tyre tube. She could not get the claw to crack! We had the waiter at our table by then because he saw my wife struggling with the claw. The body of the lobster gave up as much meat at a large prawn. For 44€ we felt cheated and asked to speak to the manager. When he got to the table he started by saying that there was nothing wrong with our meal and insisted that the lobster was the best we could get in Mojacar when we pointed out all the problems. Not wanting to argue any more, we offered to pay and leave. Will we ever go back or recommend this awful place? Like...

I was a regular customer (year-round), until yesterday. This place has never had good service, but yesterday was too much. After a long wait, the floor manager finally showed me a table, but told me to hurry because he had a reservation in an hour. To make things easier, I ordered my food immediately, as I always order the same thing. First, I received a stale wine, it had been open too long, or at least it tasted that way. When I politely asked for a different one, the senior waiter verbally attacked me, with a very intense energy. The waiter took my remark personally, as if I had offended him. He came over to my table, and loudly said, that I'm wrong. I felt embarrassed. Then I waited almost half an hour for my food, but my order was never passed on to the kitchen. The same older waiter, completely lacking in manners, professionalism, and communication skills, approached nervously, without apology or explanation, and quickly told me to order again. The time of a day, when there were more staff than customers. Your customers aren't cattle, learn to treat them better! I left feeling ill-treated, and hungry. Went to eat elsewhere. I don't feel like going back there. There is only one girl knowing what she's doing, and can smile and be friendly, unlike the rest, but I don't...

This must have been our 10th time over at Neptuno’s. Sadly the experience is not getting any better. Our favourite items are disappearing from the menu (caramelised onion scallops are gone). The items that are left on the menu are not as good as they used to be. Items arrive overdone or undercooked. This was the case on our last two visits. Prices have gone up understandably but that together with the menu missing important items have changed the experience. We don’t mind paying as long as the food is excellent. It’s not great when you discover your favourites are gone and the rest is more expensive. I am sure we will go back again but the next time may be the last unless things will change for the better.
