A restaurant by the beach of Montgat in the outskirts of Barcelona. Mongat has been traditionally a town of fishermen next to the railroad along the Mediterranean coast. In fact there is a fish auction market nearby and everything that gets to your dish is extremely fresh. Once said that let's say that all in all the restaurant is correct. This is the qualification I can asign to it at the most.
There is a set menu rather pricey around 25 euros with good starters included, 3 of them to be precise that were almost perfect: small fried fish called sonso, timbal or drum of cheese goat over slices of red pepper and aubergines and almejas de Carril (clam) which are supposed to be bigger than those served although fresh they were.
Main course in our case was Paella of arroz con bogavante or lobster rice. The picture as you will see looks awesome but the dish did not meet our expectations as the rice lacked the strong taste of seafood and fumet or fish broth which is typical in a good paella or arroz caldoso. There were other dishes like the turbot or the corvina which were a nice option in the menu.
Dessert was rather good though
So why a 4 star rating then? Well, everything was there for a magical day and service but there was nothing to surprise our senses and that accounted for the generous bill which we gladly paid.
I would say that the place has it all to be a winner and it only needs to care about the small details.
I do recommend it if the weather is fine...

From the moment we stepped inside, the service was exceptional. The staff were incredibly attentive, making sure our dining experience was nothing short of perfect.
With limited tables available, booking ahead is highly recommended. However, if you're lucky enough to snag one of the outdoor tables, you're in for a treat. Yes, the train tracks are nearby, but trust me, the outstanding food more than compensates for any passing trains.
We opted for the weekday menu priced at 25EUR, excluding drinks, and were blown away by the quality and honesty of the dishes. Simple yet bursting with flavor, each bite was a delight. A special shoutout to their Merluza ala Bilbaina and the Shrimp – absolute must-tries!
El Mirall is an absolute gem waiting to be discovered. Whether you're a local or just passing through, do yourself a favor and pay them a visit. You won't be...
