We had heard such great things about this place and were excited to try it and as Another couple were staying at the hotel MB (which belongs in the same group as the restaurant) a 10% was promised for being guests, which gave us an extra incentive. We entered the restaurant and the atmosphere had a cool vibe. We ordered the guacamole , Thai chicken croquettes, grilled tuna and the steak between the four of us. The guacamole 4/10- they had grated so much cheese on top that you couldn’t even taste the avocado. The chicken croquettes were very good, unusual 8/10. The tuna wasn’t bad either 7/10. We had asked the head waitress if we could have the steak medium rare and then just cook a little more for a friend who likes her steak well done. Her reply was, “you want me to go into the kitchen on a Saturday night. They would kill me.”not a response you would have expected from a restaurant like Oculto. If a steak is for sharing, it’s likely that everybody has their own preference on how it is cooked. The steak looked juicy, but at the same time it was so dry. 4/10. However, The torrija was amazing 10/10. Service: the staff were so quick to take our plates away, they didn’t even ask. We had to tell them that we weren’t finished yet, even if there was just a minuscule amount, we wanted to savour it- the place isn’t cheap. When the bill came the waitress said which of us were staying in the hotel because they were going to only take the 10% of the half of the bill. They hadn’t stipulated the terms and conditions before hand and even so they were only going to save just under 10 euros (our bill was 189). All in all, overpriced, overrated food with staff who think their restaurant is the GOAT, but if you want a restaurant with the same “standard “ of fine dining I would go to paco el Churretero. Don’t believe everything you see on tiktok. I hope we don’t get the same unprofessional feedback as the one two weeks ago!(see...
Read moreMy partner and I recently dined at Oculto and were unfortunately left feeling underwhelmed. Stepping into “Oculto" felt like waltzing into a confusing fever dream.
The items listed seemed to have no unifying theme or cuisine. It was like a mishmash of random dishes thrown together on a single page, with no clear connection between them. The overall feel was like staring into a pot of terribly made gumbo – a jumble of ingredients that shouldn't belong together.
As we browsed the menu we were offered bread and olive oil to which we accepted. While we appreciate the gesture, it wasn't mentioned that this would be an additional charge on the bill. It felt a bit like an upsell tactic. We certainly wouldn't have minded paying extra for the bread, but the lack of transparency in service left a sour taste.
We decided to play it safe and ordered the sushi options listed on the menu. Unfortunately, "safe" wasn't quite the word for it. The fish in the sushi had a strange pungency to it. The profile of the sushi was a confusing mix of flavours that didn't complement each other in any way and left my taste buds bewildered.
Additionally, the decor of the restaurant was quite dated. It had a strange mix of early 2000s club vibes and what seemed like an attempt at upscale design, but ultimately came across as cheap and tacky. It felt like they were trying way too hard to be “fancy”. The music was a relentless, monotonous beat – like the default club music straight out of the GTA video game’s nightclub.
Overall, the experience at Occulto was as underwhelming and flavourless as the sushi itself. No amount of "quirky" ingredients or attempts at "unique" pairings could salvage this soulless dining experience, especially not for the...
Read moreThe owner of this place has a serious ego considering the replies he’s giving to peoples critique of this overpriced restaurant full of uncooked food, cold food, weird waiters and absolutely horrible cocktails.
My burger arrived to the table ICE COLD, with apple in it. Apple in a burger? Cold and with a curry sauce? Disgusting. Ice cold chips. We were basically intimidated into drinking some weird white liquid on arrival that they said had ham and melon in it? I refused and the waiter basically pressured my boyfriend into drinking it. Waiters walking around talking into a mini mic attached to their shirt, as if they’re in the FBI. Weirdly standing over your table and watching you eat (or at least try to, the food is that bad) I think the waiter came over to our table about 15 times. Pointlessly removing one knife at a time, one fork at a time, napkins etc .. the decor is fabulous but it doesn’t really make sense to have such a beautiful restaurant with food I wouldn’t feed to my dog and service that makes you feel like your being kept there against your will. I actually originally left my review when I was here in April of 2023 and just went to find it to show my friend and realised the owner had deleted it so I am genuinely taking time out of my day to rewrite it so nobody gets roped into this fancy looking place with absolutely nothing good to offer. I would love a reply from the owner, he can’t seem to take criticism from anyone leaving reviews but mark my words this is the worse establishment I have ever been to & I have travelled far and wide. It honestly ruined what was meant to be a good night & I would hate for that to happen to...
