We ate at José and Victoria last night for the first time since the change of ownership having been regular visitors stretching back many years. We were therefore understandably curious about what to expect. We were not disappointed.
The new incarnation is a gem. Lucrecia (Lou Lou) and her chef have given the old place a new lease of life. The interior is brighter , fresher, modern as is the Menu which reflects a rejuvenated establishment. The name remains the same and Lou Lou will explain if you ask her.
All the dishes we saw served to the other diners were beautifully presented as were ours. The complimentary amuse bouche was a mushroom soup delicately flavoured, a lovely touch. The flavours, freshness and size of the salads was amazing. The goats cheese salad was outstanding. The main courses, my wife had a pork dish and I the Clam Pasta were delicious. The other diners appeared equally impressed. We had no room for desert, next time.
I can understand that regulars of the original concept would be sceptical regarding the changes but I would urge that you give it a try. You will not be disappointed. I sincerely hope José and Victoria remains a much loved fixture on the Nerja restaurant scene, it...

Read moreWe tried this place on our first night in Nerja as it was just down the road from our apartment. Luckily they managed to squeeze us in as it was, and usually is from our observations, very busy. Before our starters arrived we were treated to 2 amuse bouche, a gazpacho soup and then a puy lentil dish these indicated that we had fallen lucky with our choice of restaurant. The starters arrived, Pil Pil prawns had a nice heat to them without setting your mouth on fire and the squid rings were well cooked without being rubbery and in an excellent crunchy batter. The mains that followed (Scampi in a cream/tomato sauce and The Belgian meatballs) were of the same excellent standard. Service is relaxed, friendly and efficient. The whole meal was so good that we immediately booked for a couple of nights later to have the paella (needs to be ordered in advance) this was of an equally high standard and I think we will be paying another visit before we fly home at the end...
