Shah jan — Restaurant in Orihuela

It's hard to find a decent Indian Restaurant around ka Fuente or Villamartin. This is by far the best one we have visited ( 5 times in the last 2 months!). The two staff at front of house are always friendly, welcoming and helpful in my opinion. What also impressed us is that, although the menu does not show vegetarian dishes, they are happy to change any chicken dish for a vegetarian one, no problem. On our last meal, we had chicken tikka and veg puree starter, with lamb jalfrezi and vegetable Madras for mains, with a chilli naan ( nice kick) and tandoori paratha. The €32 menu with poppadoms, starter, mains rice or naan and a bottle of wine is the same price as most of the other Indian restaurants but for flavour and enjoyment of the meal, this is our go to restaurant. As residents, we know and have tried nearly all the local Indian restaurants, and I also travel extensively, including to cities renowned for their Indian restaurants, like Dubai, London, Jeddah,and indeed India and Pakistan. Shah Jan can hold its own against the very best. The food is always tasty with the right amount of spices. The Butter Chicken especially stands out, it is simply the best Butter Chicken that I have tried anywhere. Also their other dishes, like the Madras or Hyderabady sauces are well worth a try, as is the biryani . First visit to this restaurant and it won't be my last. We were welcomed in by a lovely waiter. All the staff were friendly and efficient and contributed to a relaxing and pleasant atmosphere ... I only got one of their names, he was called Saqi and he looked after our table for the evening. The room was clean and spacious with large tables and comfortable chairs.
