The Portobello Kitchen — Restaurant in Orihuela

Possibly one of the worst experiences in a restaurant ever in my life! Apart from niggly things like not bringing ice as requested and the house white tasting like paint stripper the waitress finally brought out my starter at the same time as bringing out the mains for the rest of the party almost an hour after placing the order. They actually brought my main at the same time. Then she said that we had confused her by asking for it all to be brought together! Err no. What sane person would do that? Anyway in good spirits still I tried the starter as I was starving by this point. A single Thai fish cake. Clearly it had been under the heat lamp for some time as it was somewhat overcooked but it was so small I just ate it. I told the waitress clearing the plates that it was a little overcooked 10 minutes later she returned and announced to the whole table that my starter was in fact not overcooked and that I was wrong in saying so. This did not go down well. I asked if she thought that I was telling lies but she continued that I was wrong. I asked for the manager eventually as she would not apologise. At this point a few friends had just arrived and had asked to order food (at 5.30 ish) this was clearly difficult and after the carry on decided to cancel. The manager came but whilst I was trying to explain what occurred interrupted and said no one had complained before about the waitress and the others had arrived too late for food etc so further rows ensued. A cook arrived with my mains but I turned it away. Nobody was served their dessert. 8 people left and the whole afternoon was soured. The verdict on the mains that some got was very average and the wine undrinkable and overpriced. Let’s just say that none of us will be returning! Sad a a nice restaurant and lovely...

Top Notch! Group of 4 ladies for dinner on a busy Saturday evening. Our host Nick was very knowledgeable and very attentive, nothing was too much trouble for him. We had some special dietary requirements and by all accounts were made to feel extremely comfortable from the minute we got to the door. We had no booking but Nick managed to squeeze us in, and unfortunately for others that came along after, there was no more availability. My friend and I went to try out this restaurant prior to booking our monthly ladies lunch. We went in the evening 9th October as it was closed at lunchtime ( a local red day). The venue is tastefully furnished, with comfortable seats. The lady who looked after us was very helpful and we enjoyed the evening. The food was hot and tasty and despite the fact she was on by herself the service was good. The chef brought out our main courses as the waitress was busy serving others which we really appreciated. The food was lovely, service excellent it is 17.95€ for 2 courses. Would highly recommend and we booked lunch 12.95€ for 40 ladies on...
