El Toc — Restaurant in Palafrugell

Very few restaurants are open at times during times that Catalonians don’t eat- which is fine, but places like this are appreciated for those of us traveling short periods in Spain and cannot (or don’t want to) adjust our eating schedules. The waiter who served me clearly knows how to serve and to a clientele that is international- exceptional service- best I’ve had in Spain ( mind you I’m not eating at Michelin restaurants but even so…). They weren’t able to accommodate us under the canopy but asked if we would be ok under the orange tree bang opposite and so fitted us in. Really helpful and polite staff that didn’t leave us out at all. Just tapas as we were saving ourselves for later along with some sangria. Food was tasty, seemed freshly cooked. Elegimos este restaurante porque nos parecía, dentro del rango de precios razonables, el que mejor calidad tenía. La fideuá estaba rica, aunque nos gusta más cuando se usa un fideo más fino, el que usan aquí es muy grueso, pero de sabor estaba rico. El entrante de croquetas que se anunciaban como caseras, eran un desastre, no sabían a nada en concreto salvo a harina y aceite, para nada recomendables. El pan con tomate, unas rodajas de barra de pan muy básico con un tomate muy básico encima, en este caso tratándose de Cataluña, un verdadero crimen, para servir este pan es mejor retirarlo de la carta. En resumen, para los platos contundentes sí merece la pena, para platos sencillos y entrantes, nada recomendable, no se entiende, pero así es.
