Osaka is a port city in Japan. The restaurant’s advertisement claims that they use a robot to serve guests. In Japan, robots are widely utilized, and we had been looking forward for quite some time to visiting this restaurant — both to experience authentic Japanese cuisine and to be served by a machine.
Today, we visited Osaka, and our disappointment was considerable. The restaurant is operated by Chinese owners, the interior is Chinese, and the dishes offered are typical of an average Chinese restaurant. The robot was parked beside a fridge. There is nothing about the food or the decor that evokes Japan.
Wonton soup is traditionally rich and hearty, yet the soup I received today was as clear as water, had very little flavor, was filled with spring onions, and contained a few tiny wontons with long, loose strands of dough. It was not good, and I had to request strong chili to create some flavor.
My dining companion ordered the "Osaka Soup," which strongly resembled an ordinary Chinese peking soup with pieces of mushroom and lacked distinctive taste.
We were served eight tiny salmon maki rolls — a size perhaps suitable for children — but certainly not something a trained Japanese sushi chef would serve. Frankly, to serve frozen slices of tuna on some salad leaves, charge €18, and call it "Tuna Sashimi" is highly misleading.
The food we were served today resembled something a ninth-grade student might prepare in a school kitchen. We ended the meal prematurely, as there was little incentive to continue.
The waitress was polite and friendly, and we decided not to make a scene. However, it is clear that this restaurant relies primarily on charter tourism rather than local clientele, and therefore likely pays little attention to customer feedback. As we left the restaurant, we saw the Chinese chef walking down the street with a cigarette hanging from the corner of his mouth — he had presumably just been...
Read moreThis restaurant is all fur coat and no knickers! Ie, it looks good, has a robot that delivers your food to the table and an extensive menu with choices from; Chinese, Japanese, Vietnam and Thai cuisine, however, the food is bland, its very poor for vegetarians and inflexible. They have 6 set menus, see photo of menu, but all containing meat or fish main courses, when we asked if we could swap the 2 meat dishes for 2 vegetarian, they refused and said we had to choose dishes from the main menu. Unfortunately, the vegetable section was very limited with only 5 dishes to choose from, see menu. We chose vegetable spring rolls, vegetables in a curry sauce, which was extremely bland and vegetable tempura which again was very bland and didn't come with any sauce so was also very dry. Whenever we've had this before, it's always come with a sweet and sour or plumb sauce to dip them in. The picture on the menu shows it with a dipping sauce, maybe soya, but we weren't served anything. If you're a meat and/or fish eater I'm sure you'll enjoy this restaurant, but sadly it hasn't considered vegetarians at all, the vegetable dishes are simply an accompaniment to the meat/fish...
Read moreWe waited 30mins to get drinks since ordering them. Also seemed like some other tables had to wait for their drinks even longer. Food came after an hour wait. Rice was cold, and we got only half of the order at first. The second came 5mins later. The beef dishes were good. The bill was higher than expected as rice wasnt included within the beef dishes price, so be aware of that. It seemed like they were heavily understaffed and not prepared for serving even half full restaurant.. So with all this, I really cannot recommend this place and won't...
