Restaurante Mao Mao Beach — Restaurant in San Bartolomé de Tirajana

We have been to Mao Mao several times since it first opened and every time the experience is a bit different. This time it wasn’t a good one. The staff were arguing with each other and generally making a racket near the serving area and the service was extremely slow, for Mao Mao. They have crammed so many tables into such a small space and today they were really struggling to cope with a very busy lunchtime service. Added pressure of a big queue waiting to gain a table probably doesn’t help. Had squid ‘a la Romana’ and the portion was ok if smaller than previously but when it finally got to our table it was just warm so had obviously been sitting somewhere for a bit while the limited staff ran about like crazy shouting at each other!🤣 If it wasn’t for the fact that the sun was shining and I wasn’t back in the freezing UK doing a mind-numbingly tedious 9-5 job then I might just have been a bit more annoyed. Please do better next time Mao Mao and keep your work-related personnel disputes out of the customer’s eyes and ears, thanks! 👍🏻 P.S. What looks like a simple beach bar, turns out to be an amazing restaurant. Great food, great drinks, great staff, nice music, nice location, good prices, what do you want? Staff seem to have a good relationship between each others, though they tend to be well busy. The food won't be a 3 star Michelin, but it was one of the best we had. We tried boiled octopus, green peppers and grilled chorizo, all great. The rosé wasn't much of our taste, but they have a few others so don't hold on that. And the barraquitos...anyone reading this, we go around the canaries ordering this canarian coffee. First time we got it served in a flute. Not with most layers, still well presented, and tasted nice. For now, the best we had on the island. What we especially loved: dedicated area for smokers. As non smokers, this helped us to enjoy the time while not being a burden on smokers either. Verdict: give it a try. It's not a busy place...

I had a disappointing meal this evening after a good meal last night. I had the same meal both nights which was the fresh fish. Last night I received a full fish which was satisfying. Tonight I received a half fish which was not satisfying considering the €25 price. It seems they serve a half fish if it is big. However, the fish was of a similar size both evenings, so I had half the meal of the previous night. I noticed that the chef was different which may explain the inconsistency. The Canary potatoes were also Luke warm. I think the food in this place is...
