Resturante el Tropico — Restaurant in San Sebastián de la Gomera

Terrible experience for our family of four. We still felt hungry after leaving and were verbally abused by the Italian chef. There are unreasonable reviews and factual ones, this one will be the latter.

When we arrived, it took 15min for the waitress to notice us (even though there were only 2 other tables occupied). The waitress was kind, but clearly very inexperienced. There was a big language barrier, so we decided to keep it simple and just order a bottle of wine, 2 tuna steaks, gamba’s and risotto.

The gamba’s and risotto arrived quite quickly and the waitress told us the rest would come soon. However, the chef came outside for a smoke, shouting ‘5 minutes brake!’. We were flabbergasted.

The risotto wasn’t risotto at all but a tiny plate of overcooked rice with some Parmesan. The gamba’s were dry but the taste was ok.

15 minutes later, it turned out something went wrong, because the waitress asked us if we would like to order desert, not noticing that half of us didn’t have dinner yet.

After another 10 minutes the tuna arrived. It was a sad, cold, overcooked piece of fish tasting like the dirty grill it came from. The vegetables and potatoes we ordered with it were nowhere to be seen.

We decided to take our loss and get the hell out, but the bill added up to €65,- (we’ve had great meals on La Gomera for much much less). We decided €50 was enough. Instead of apologizing for the bad service, the chef started shouting at us in Italian. We were sorry for the guests still waiting for...

El interior de "La Venta De La Francesa" es muy acogedor. Los dueños son de origen de Italia (Venecia) pero vivieron en Barcelona. El capuchino era mas parecido a un café con leche, mi zumo de fruta excelente, el croissant con aguacate no estaba tan rico ya que el aguacate no estaba maduro pero el panecillo/bocata con verdura me encantó. Servicio poco eficiente y todo no muy bien organizado. El horario publicado en la reseña de "Faial Livingston" ya no es correcto. Desgraciadamente casi todos los restaurantes se están adaptando a los horarios de las grandes naves que llegan a La Gomera. Por el momento "La Venta De La Francesa" esta cerrado por descanso el lunes y martes.

Der Innenbereich von "La Venta De La Francesa" ist sehr einladend. Die Besitzer stammen aus Italien (Venedig) und lebten in Barcelona. Der Cappuccino war mehr wie ein Milchkaffee, mein Fruchtsaft war ausgezeichnet, das Croissant mit Avocado allerdings nicht so toll, da die Avocado nicht reif war. Das kleine Baguette mit Gemüse war klasse. Service ist ineffizient und alles nicht sehr gut organisiert. Der in der Rezension von "Faial Livingston" veröffentlichte Zeitplan ist nicht mehr korrekt. Leider passen sich fast alle Restaurants den Fahrplänen der großen Schiffe an, die auf La Gomera ankommen. Im Moment ist "La Venta De La Francesa" am Montag und Dienstag...

Bueno, por lo visto a este sitio le suelen cambiar el nombre con frecuencia pues en Dic de 2017 se llama "El trópico". En fin, lo típico, vimos que había gente y nos sentamos. Ahora pienso que vaya estafada nos dieron a todos allí. Había menús a 12,50€ por persona que incluían dos platos, bebida y postre o café. La idea es buena, pues eliges de una carta que ellos te dan y oye todo por 12,5€ tiene buena pinta. Pedimos de primero unos gnocchis y una ensalada, los primeros estaban buenos pero la ensalada era muy pobre. De segundo mi pareja se pidió un solomillo con verduras y yo unos langostinos asados con arroz basmati y verduras; pues bien el solomillo media 4 centímetros literalmente y verduras lo que se dice verduras no tenía, le pusieron 2 trocitos de queso, varios de pera y aguacate. Sin sentido. Los langostinos estaban sin pelar y poco guisados, el arroz basmati se les olvidó ponerlos y como verduras un poco de lo mismo: pera y aguacate. El postre que se suponía que era uno para cada uno, pusieron uno para dos, y ya está. Nos fuimos de allí con la sensación de que nos habían robado.
