Pello taberna — Restaurant in San Sebastián

This review should be 4 stars, but because the barista seemed annoyed from the minute we entered the bar, I'm giving Pello the lowest score possible. I ordered an egg sandwich which was delicious albeit a little soggy. My friend order the pepito de ternera. He asked if the beef was tender and the barista affirmed that it was tender. When asked about the ingredients, she said it had cheese. As my companion is lactose intolerant, he asked to exchange the cheese for tomato puree that they serve on the pan con tomate. After a few bites, the beef was so tough, like a shoe sole, that you had to use a steak knife to eat it. When he complained and asked to speak with the chef, she refused.The barista also refused to discount it from the check. To add insult to injury, she charged a 1€ supplemental charge for the crushed tomato spread. San Sebastian is known for fantastic food and great service....

A couple of streets back from La Concha. Great wee restaurant, looks like a rustic bar on the outside but spacious and immaculate inside. Menu of the day (3 course) was fantastic value, excellent homemade food, the lentil soup with chorizo and black pudding was stand out but everything was excellent. A bottle of lovely wine included in the meal...

Stayed nearby and went here a number of times - everything is perfect! Very nice service , but crucially all the food is excellent and home made. Menu del dia was great value and the other food great too. Nice wine and beer - we are very grateful that such a nice affordable place exists...
