A Must-Visit Culinary Gem in Sanlúcar de Barrameda

Bar Casa Balbino, located in the heart of Plaza del Cabildo, is an absolute must for anyone visiting Sanlúcar de Barrameda. This iconic establishment is renowned for its tortillitas de camarones, a crispy and flavorful delicacy that truly defines the essence of Andalusian cuisine.

However, Balbino offers much more than its legendary langostinos🦐 . The pudding de atún is a hidden gem—smooth, rich, and bursting with the deep, umami flavors of high-quality tuna. Another unexpected delight is their fried chicken, prepared with a technique that elevates this simple dish to a whole new level.

Seafood lovers will be mesmerized by the impressive display of fresh fish and shellfish, a visual and gastronomic feast that guarantees the highest quality and freshest flavors. Whether you’re craving langostinos, clams, or local delicacies, Balbino delivers an unforgettable experience.

To top it all off, the warmth and charisma of Óscar, one of the restaurant’s key figures, add an extra touch of joy and authenticity. His energy and passion make every visit a special occasion.

In short, Bar Casa Balbino is not just a restaurant—it’s an experience. If you’re in Sanlúcar, missing out on this legendary spot would be a mistake. Five stars,...

I've been visiting Casa Balbino every year when I visit from abroad. The quality of food is always first class, delicious tapas, both hot and cold. Everything fresh and totally traditional to the region. Tables in the main square are a hot commodity so often there's a wait. Try to get there early if you can! There are also tables on the side alley - less nice but if you visit mainly for good food, won't matter much where you sit. One time we had less than pleasant experience when we visited with my elderly suegra. She walked with a rollator, we were 5 people but got seated in a small table for 4 in the alley, despite bigger tables being available there. Granted, it was rush hours so possibly they were keeping larger table in case a bigger group comes. At the end there wasn't any bigger group so a couple got seated at a large table while we were squished at a 4 person table, being 5 people plus a walker. Aside from that little hiccup, love this place. Best tortillas de...

Terrible experience. While queuing, the host asked us to follow him with two other groups, but then rudely claimed he had only meant the larger parties. As we returned to the line, an aggressive woman repeatedly grabbed my mother’s shoulder accusing her of cutting, joined by another woman with a stroller yelling in our faces. Completely unacceptable behavior. One server briefly explained that we hadn’t cut, but when they kept shouting, he shrugged, said “well, I don’t know,” and walked away. The host who caused the confusion didn’t step in either. Staff stood by and did nothing while my mother was touched and yelled at. On top of that, service was slow (15 minutes before anyone took our order while later tables were served first), the tortilla de camarones was dripping in oil, and the rest of the food...

Drove from Jerez to try the tortilla de Camarones and they did not disappoint. Arrived around 12:30pm for lunch to avoid the crowd and glad we did since a long line formed later on. Each order comes with 2 pieces of perfectly seasoned and fried tortillas that is light, airy and yes, greasy! Soooo good! We also ordered Squid eggs in olive oil. Not my favorite. It needed more salt or seasoning in my opinion but luckily we ordered clam in garlic, olive oil sauce which was delicious and plenty of sauce leftover to share with the squid eggs. 😉 Fish eggs were average. It was very pleasant to sit in the outdoor area with beautiful flowers and a flowing fountain nearby. Glass display case with all the dishes and ingredients clearly visible inside the restaurant.

This is a great place to get your fish on if you're looking for a seafood dinner. There are plenty of food options for all tastes and even for those that want to experiment with some old school Andalucian cuisine. Now if you really want to make the staff happy order a lobster and bring lots of cash. When they serve it to you there is absolutely no fighting for your meat as it is perfectly prepared with all the meat out of the shell and ready to eat. This tavern has been owned by the Balbino family since 1924 and the walls are hung with historical pictures of the tavern and town of Sanlucar. There also seems to be a big connection to bullfighting and this restaurant but we never got around to asking - just another reason to visit this place! Safe Travels
