After crossing the Atlantic from NYC to Tenerife aboard the Training Ship State of Maine, my girlfriend and I docked in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and set out to find a meal — something different, ideally, from what we’d been eating at sea. Most places were booked solid, and we were both rapidly approaching that quiet, slightly hostile kind of hunger. Eventually, we found Con Limón y Sal Santa Cruz. It had tables open. That was all we needed.
We were seated outside, in what’s best described as a fenced-in section of sidewalk — a makeshift patio surrounded by a waist-high acrylic barrier. The tables were close together, packed with sunburnt British and Northern European tourists all trying to satisfy a craving for Mexican food, for reasons unclear. It was busy, loud, and oddly coordinated — like everyone there had collectively decided that this was where they were going to go be disappointed together.
As Americans, we’re familiar with what Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine is supposed to taste like. What we got wasn’t that. I ordered the chicken tacos, which came on small flour tortillas filled with bright red, sugar-sweet chicken. Not spicy, not savory — just strangely candied. I couldn’t finish them. The nachos were equally puzzling: a soup bowl of tortilla chips covered in a molten, orange sauce that may have once aspired to be cheese but gave up somewhere along the way. It didn’t taste like cheese. It didn’t really taste like anything at all.
To their credit, the service was fast, and our waitress was polite. That alone keeps this from being a one-star review. We left in a better mood than we arrived, but only because we were no longer hungry.

For service it was mixed bag. Felt quite unprofessional with very casual and baggy wear for our waiter. Also some messups with the order. Not too bad though. There seemed to only be one chef so food took a little while. Overall good place that you should go for some...
