Negative Review of "Es Fumeral" in Sant Eulària des Riu, Cala Nova, Ibiza Our experience at the restaurant "Es Fumeral" was extremely disappointing and we consider it very negative. The peak of disappointment came when we ordered a dish that sounded exquisite on the menu: "Gambas Rojas al Ajillo con Velo de Barbate de Pata Negra Ibérica y Piparra" (Red Prawns in Garlic Oil with a Shaving of Iberico Ham and Guernica Pepper). The expectations, already heightened by the description and setting, were completely shattered by what was served to us. What we received: A terracotta bowl filled with boiling oil. Submerged in the oil, just five prawns in total. The dish was covered with an excessive amount of sliced garlic. The promised "velo" (shaving) of pata negra ham was completely absent. The piparra (Guernica pepper) was present but couldn't redeem the dish. Our reaction: The presentation and substance of the dish left us stunned and perplexed. My friend and I exchanged incredulous looks, wondering if it was some kind of tasteless joke. The disproportion between the sophisticated description, the undoubtedly high price (€32 for the bowl), and the reality of five prawns in a bowl of oil was simply unacceptable. Staff intervention: I called the waiter to ask for an explanation about the dish. The waiter, clearly embarrassed, called the head waiter/maître d'. The head waiter, without offering any convincing explanation or apology, simply took the plates away with a dismissive gesture, merely inviting us to order something else. The end of our meal: At that point, we were no longer hungry and, more importantly, had lost all trust in the restaurant. We refused to order anything else and simply finished the two glasses of wine and the water we already had on the table. An observation on the restaurant's attitude: The only partially positive note was the waitress serving us, who appeared extremely kind and visibly embarrassed by the situation. When I asked her if customers often complained about similar dishes, her answer was revealing and disheartening: "La gente si conforma" ("People just go along with it" / "People resign themselves to it"). This statement made us realize that our experience was not an isolated incident, but rather a standard practice the restaurant employs, counting on customer acquiescence.
Final verdict: An unacceptable experience for a restaurant claiming to offer high-end cuisine. Poor quality (at least for the ordered dish), complete lack of complaint management by the management, arrogant attitude in removing the plate without addressing the problem, and disproportionate prices relative to what is served. Not recommended at all. The head waiter's behaviour and the waitress's implicit admission that "people just go along with it" speak volumes about their approach...
Read moreLet's call this place what it really is.. Jondal North! Same uniforms, same boho decor, same valet parking if you drive a Porsche, and most importantly the same unbelievablely pretentious snobbery and highway robbery prices for peninsular elites and other nouveau rich flexing their cash and LV man purses.
Front line tables always specifically booked.. Which means you're not who they want to be seen sitting at their best tables.. No, those are all reserved for the owners friends who walks around showing brochures of the yacht they're buying, and priveleged concierges sending their ultra vip clients down in a viano van. When we went, we were given a table in the very back with a view of wall despite asking for one of the empty tables in a more desirable location with airflow. Next to us was a German table and French table. All other front tables were for preppy Spaniards wearing linens, stupid loafers and 50k Rolex's.. Funny how their fellow country mates are in poverty especially in Ibiza, but I digress. The xenophobia was on full display at this joint!
Food wise.. Same same as jondal. 1 euro per olive, 10 euros for a loaf of bread, king crab alla jondal, and other luxury vegetables and seafood canned in Galicia. The fish is 13/100g (clever way of saying 130/1kg). Basically, stupendous prices that not even their linen uniforms and constant upselling justify. Enjoy a clam for 6 euros why don't you. 1 clam..from the same 1kg bag of clams from eroski that costs 8 euros! We lost interest after a few more mortgaged starters and left after our 2 hour time limit expired.
On the positive tip... The view is nice, but you have to get up from your table in the back and walk to the front to see the water while the peasants enjoy the...
Read moreWarning, absolute BAD!!! We were really looking forward to the new opening of the Es Fumeral restaurant in Cala Nova, but we were extremely deceived. The menu is generally very expensive but you know that in advance. My husband had ordered the catch of the day, among other things, which was offered for 100 grams for €13,00. The fish weighed less than an average sea bream, i.e. around 300 grams. However, the bill said 720 grams, as I said less than a sea bream and ultimately cost €108.00 for a very small fish for one person, without side orders. When we asked, we were told that the fish had weighed that much. I am a good cook myself and can estimate weight very well. We actually thought that such a good restaurant would not rip off its guests so blatantly, but we were proven wrong. We are happy to pay more if the food is very good, but in this case we were extremely cheated and we will advise all our friends on the island against going to this restaurant. What a shame! By the way, the cheapest glass of white wine cost €11.00, the service was completely overwhelmed and after 2 hours we politely asked for our main course, which was apparently forgotten. I also have to agree with the previous reviews that reviews were written even though the restaurant hadn't even opened yet. The worst thing, however, was the mini fish, weighing no more than 300 grams, which was sold to us for 720 grams. So folks, ask for a scale to be brought to your table beforehand, then you won't be deceived. That's...
