La Atalaya de Mayte — Restaurant in Santander

My wife and I had a great dinner there last night with our small dog in tow (they have outside seating). The restaurant is run by a family and even the name and many of the dishes are from the family past and history. They were so nice to us and went out of their way to make sure we had a nice meal. We have food allergies and they did what they could to accommodate and guide us on what we could and could not eat. While limited, we still had 3 great dishes. Their snails are the best we have had, their beef in red wine was soft and delicious and their solomillo with whisky sauce (family recipe) was sooo good. The staff here especially the owners are extremely friendly and love talking with their guests. I had a wonderful time here! We connected with the staff on multiple occasions. The food was also very good and the presentation was magnificent. The owner told us that they used to be in Madrid and that many famous people would come to their restaurant. I understand why! I got the quail and it was the perfect meal since I was looking for something light but filling. Afterwards I ordered the carrot cake and it came out warm with melted icing. La verdad es que no entiendo las valoraciones que tiene este restaurante.

El ambiente agradable y el servicio correcto pero con muchos matices que no ayudan a una evaluación positiva.

La elaboración es correcta, la presentación justa y la cantidad escasa. El precio no es justificable teniendo en cuenta las cualidades y calidades.

Adjunto factura de hoy para seis personas:

Pastel de cabracho. 3 trozos de tamaño medio-bajo, cucharada sopera de salsa y brotes de cebollita 13€. Bueno, pero no para hacerlo inolvidable

Cecina de Potes. Plato llano cubierto y salmorejo para acompañar. La mezcla es buena pero la cecina no es de lo mejor que puedas encontrar. Tampoco el grosor es el adecuado (Es cecina, no 5J). 13€. Tampoco será recordado este plato.

Rabas de calamar. Según cocina 250gr, a ojo puede que no lleguen a los 150. Salados y duros (Un pecado que esto ocurra en Santander) 16€.  Este no es que no haya que recordarlo. A este hay que olvidarlo rápidamente.

Lubina con verduritas. Un cuarto de Lubina, buen material y elaboración correcta 24€. No es acorde la calidad y elaboración del producto al precio. Es el mejor de los cuatro, pero tampoco lo recordaremos mucho tiempo.

Pan. 1,5 por una ración similar a una mollera. Sin comentario. Por algún motivo el nuestro no venía embolsado, el de los comensales de la mesa contigua si que lo estaba.

No comimos postres. Viendo lo ocurrido, consideramos más adecuado tomar un helado en la heladería del paseo marítimo, enfrente del lujoso Gran hotel del Sardinero. Buenísimo. Eso sí es memorable.
