An unforgettable experience at this world famous restaurant in Segovia,Spain. Tucked deep inside the main street and just off the square. A traditional Spanish restaurant with wood beans and tile floor welcomes you into this lively, family friendly place. Our travel agent arranged a wine pairing meal for us. We began with the 21st Century salad and it was a beautiful presentation with a wide flavor profile. Next we had Iberian ham and a delicious bread topped with tomatoes and olive oil. The first entree of Baked hake au gratin was absolutely amazing. Then on to the main attraction... The Suckling Pig. This is a big deal, as the owner discovered that he could carve the pig with a plate because it was so tender. And in the past, the tradition was to break the plate on the ground after the carving to celebrate. They don't often do this anymore but there are broken plates all over the walls as a reminder. The pig was tender and so flavorful.... What a treat! Finally, we finished with dessert. A traditional layered cake with ice cream! An excellent time was had. The atmosphere is very joyful and a bit loud. Lots of families with children when we were there and it only added to the warm, homey environment. Don't miss this experience and call ahead for reservations!!!

This place seems to be the best in the area for the Segovia speciality, roast suckling pig. We were told they roast 21,000 suckling pigs each year. José María seems to be the "King" of the dish. The restaurant is nicely situated just a short distance from Segovia cathedral and has a good tapas bar at the front, and a spacious restaurant behind. The staff were very pleasant and efficient, with some English spoken and a fully translated menu into English. We ordered their speciality: - Cochinillo asado de nuestra corte y hornada. D. Marca de Garantía «Cochinillo de Segovia» (Cochinillo: milk-fed suckling pig, roasted in a traditional oven. A certified regional product with the «Cochinillo de Segovia» guarantee) We didn't have to wait long before a whole roasted suckling pig arrived in front of us. The waiter cut it into about 6 pieces, using the edge of a plate and served a large portion each. We had it with chips - there was no vegetables. The pork was absolutely delicious: wonderfully crisp, salty skin, the most tender, moist piggy-tasting pork and a rich gravy. Piggy heaven! This might not be to everyone's taste, but we really enjoyed the experience. Thank you team José María - we loved it. (Also posted to my food blog on Instagram @AbbeyKing16)

A traditional and authentic Segovian restaurant that serves suckling roast pig, and other meat delights. One portion is 30 euros. I wished the served gave the hind leg part because the front leg was boney, bit more fatty, and i wasn't a fan of the face. The skin is roasted well and crispy. The meat falls of the bones like butter, and the pork juice is yummy with the bread. Some of the servers can speak English, but not all of them. The main serve brought an bread butter appetizer, and said it was on the house, but i think it wasn't because a charge for bread was included in the bill, which is a shame. I have no issues charging for bread, but it should be mentioned to the customer clearly than giving mixed communication and then charging the customer. It's because i asked what is the PAN charge, then the serve said it's for the bread, which he noticed they charged me twice. Fortunately, the waiter returned one bread cost back, but still, if i didn't ask, i would have paid for something i didn't order nor wanted. So, i advice customers to be mindful, especially for folks who don't speak Spanish. The suckling pig was a good experience, but it's not something to eat often, in my opinion. Yet, as an experience, a must try and ensure to ask the waiter parts you want eat. I also recommend trying their tapas bar, which looked lively and fun. Hope the information is helpful.

If you are visiting Segovia, you must make a stop at Restaurante Jose Maria. Here you the best Cochinillo. This time we tried the fried and roasted cochinillo, personally like the roasted one better, nonetheless they are both delicious. We also enjoyed the different cheeses for appetizers, which are must if you are wanting to try something different. I am not a cheese person and I loved all of them. In the past, we have also tried the artichoke hearts, and they are one of the best side dishes, the combination of ham and egg were definitely something new for me and I would definitely order them again. The house wine, which is named also Jose Maria is very good and if you want to have something different, their Vermut is also a great choice. I must say that if you are wanting some dessert as well, you may want to share a main course. Plates have very good portions and if you add appetizers, it may leave you wanting to pass on dessert. I would like to add that in every occasion we have visited this restaurant, the owner Jose Maria himself has stoped by and made sure we were well served and that we have been enjoying our visit, something that makes this place unique from others. I love having that he takes time for everyone in the house.

The one word I'd use to describe today's meal is sensational. I really don't understand some of these negative reviews - almost seems like a different restaurant. I had lunch here today and this was one of the best meals I've had in recent memory. It's the perfect combination of the traditional meeting the modern. I was a bit skeptical going in thinking it would be quite touristy but it absolutely is not. The chorizo as a starter was great, the 21st century salad might have been one of the most delicious dishes I've ever had, completely next level and innovative and not to be missed, and of course the pig was unique, tender and sublime. And for those who appreciate farm to table you won't find much fresher than this as the slaughter date of the pig was yesterday. I also had the house wine which is from the bodega owned by the owner and it was just outstanding as well. Had a look at the bodega's website which is about an hour from Segovia and no question I'll visit on my next trip to the area. A superb restaurant with great service and I will certainly return. The casual, relaxed, timeless vibe and authenticity adds to the experience. Their gastro/tapas bar looks great too.

Traditional restaurant with best "cochinillo" ever. The truly cochinillo is crispy and its skin is sand once cooked . When you order cochinillo here, you are about to experience a truly crispy cochinillo. Traditionally cochinillo is accompanied by fresh salad or French chips .Order wine from their own winery. An special edition of Pago de Carroviejas which you can only find at the restaurant. Not for sale, just for customers. The restaurant has the bar area at where you will be able to taste morcilla and flavored wines. There are various salons , one of them ,the newest one , with a beautiful winery. Starters such a Castellana soup or mixed mushroom with eggs are amazing. Traditional service with almost hole stuff from Segovia or vicinity. You will be served quickly and well. The product is certified , natural and high quality. They only cook local products. Be sure to book a table in advanced. This restaurant is always full. Don't miss their fresh oranges to refresh your mouth at the end of the meal! Great restaurant to enjoy with friends, family etc.. Good quality-price.
