After reading the previous reviews I was looking forward to eating here on our 1st night and was certainly let down by the experience.
Tuesday evening, restaurant fairly busy. Shown to our table and drinks order taken promptly, food order taken too, so far so good.
Then . . .
2 margaritas arrived, no salted rim, no lime wedge, minimal ice considering it was still 30+ degrees, tasted pretty bland, considering they were €17.
Next the starter arrived, mixed fried seafood. White fish / prawns / scallops and tempura veg all very good. Whiting not so good, but personal preference not standard of cooking. Nothing to dip the fish in, some alioli would've been great.
Then the main arrived, mixed paella for 2. The plates we'd used for our starters were the only thing they left us with to eat our mains from, batter, oil, discarded lemon pieces still upon them from the starter. The starter platter wasn't taken from the table, so staring at left over Whiting winking at us for the remainder of the evening too wasn't ideal. We weren't asked if we were okay for drinks, water or how our starter was when the main arrived, pretty standard / basic stuff.
The paella was distinctly average, nothing to complain about, but certainly nothing to write home about. A middling paella that i would have expected a British chef could have knocked up, certainly not what you expect in the Balearics.
No further interaction from staff, until we had to summon them for the bill, pretty parched from our lack of drinks . . .
. . . Good job there was no salt on the margaritas 😬
So to conclude, expectations high based upon reviews, food was good re: starter, very average for the mains, drinks (cocktails) the biggest waste of money in NATO and the service pleasant, but so far from attentive they're incredibly uncertain how to spell it.
If it's quiet, perhaps it's okay?, but still don't order a margarita . . . You've...
Read moreDuring our travels, we found ourselves at Sa Caleta, looking for a spot to grab a bite around 1 o'clock. The hunger was real. I opted for the spag bol, and let me tell you, it was nothing short of impeccable. My better half went for the polo pasta, which, from the contented looks she gave, was top-notch. And can we just have a moment for that bread and alyoli? Essential. The olives, too - absolutely first-class, something to write home about.
But what truly stole the show? The views. It's not every day you dine with your toes nearly touching the sands, the sea's melody playing in the background. And on such a scorcher of a day! Yet, the ambiance was made even cooler by the staff. Notably, one particular gent who, upon hearing we hailed from Birmingham, England, struck up a chat about 'Peaky Blinders'. A touch of home, miles away.
The shade provided was a godsend in the blistering heat, but what genuinely caught my eye? That parmesan cheese in a bottle, accompanied by a grater. Now, I've been around the block, seen a thing or two, but this? Truly novel. Unreal, in fact.
In life, as with any good story, it's the characters we meet and the shared experiences that craft our narrative. To every individual at Sa Caleta, thank you for becoming a part of ours. As they say in Spain, "No hay mal que por bien no venga" – every cloud has a silver lining. Just like the Shelby family's spirit, even amidst adversity, there's always a glimmer of hope and...
Read moreFantastic tapas with a beautiful view and decent service. We stopped here while on holiday in Majorca, despite being at an all inclusive resort we wanted to go out and try some of the local restaurants, wanting to try some authentic tapas I picked this place based on previous reviews and it lived up to its reputation. We had ordered 7-8 tapas dishes (between 3 of us) and a pizza, for one of my children. This was more than enough food with a few bits left at the end (and half the pizza, which was large!). I ordered a selection of dishes, some I recognise from previous tapas restaurants and a few new dishes to try. All were very good, but my favourites were the chorizo and the prawn in garlic (Gambas). The cheese and sausage selection was also good. If I had to skip a dish, I'd probably drop the Spanish omelet, nothing wrong with it, but heavy for tapas and we'd also ordered patas bravas (a potato dish) so didn't really need more potatoes. We had a few of drinks (beer, wine, 2 cokes) and then a couple of cocktails at the end. The only disappointment was the desserts, the cheese cake was more like a sponge cake and the ice-cream wasn't what we hoped for, but then we didn't come here for the desserts so I can look past that for the fantastic tapas. The total bill came to €125 euro (about £100) for a meal and drinks for four, which I...
