Disappointing Dining Experience with Signs of Potential Discrimination

I got to say, the food is really good! But others?🤬

During my visit to this restaurant, I encountered a series of unpleasant experiences that left me feeling disrespected and uncomfortable.

First, when we placed our drink orders, I ordered a Coke. While everyone else received their drinks promptly, mine was missing. Initially, I thought this might have been an honest mistake since we were a large group. However, even after almost all the food had been served, including some appetizers, my drink still hadn’t arrived. When it finally did, I noticed it was the only one without a lemon slice. Again, I brushed it off, thinking it might have been due to how busy they were.

However, what happened next raised more serious concerns. I had also ordered an appetizer, but while everyone else at the table received theirs, mine never arrived. I patiently waited, thinking it might still be coming, but it wasn’t served until after my main course had already been brought out. This forced me to eat my appetizer and dessert together at the end of the meal, which was not how I intended to enjoy my food.

When it was time to order the main courses, I faced a language barrier as I don’t speak Spanish well. To make things easier, I copied the exact names of the dishes from the menu onto a note and showed it to the waiter. He glanced at it briefly, said “okay,” and moved on very quickly. I thought everything was fine, but I soon noticed my friends spent significantly more time discussing their orders with the same waiter. This felt odd, so I asked my Spanish-speaking friend to help clarify.

When we called the waiter back, he apologized, saying he had only placed one of my main course orders because he thought that was enough. I had ordered two main courses because I was very hungry that day. While I understand servers sometimes offer suggestions, I don’t believe it was his place to decide for me without asking. If he had concerns about portion sizes, he could’ve communicated that by saying something like, “Are you sure you’d like both? Our portions are quite large.” Instead, he made an assumption without confirmation. Moreover, he didn’t make any effort to come back and clarify my order until we questioned him directly. After repeated confirmations, he finally added the rest of my dishes.

What made me feel particularly uncomfortable was that I was the only Asian woman at the table, and I couldn’t help but suspect that this may have influenced how I was treated.

The third incident further reinforced my feelings. After finishing my main course, the waiter came over to ask if we wanted dessert. When my dessert arrived, he brought five or six extra spoons without me asking, implying that I would be sharing it with others. I never mentioned wanting to share, and he didn’t do this for anyone else at our table. I found this assumption both unnecessary and intrusive.

While I can’t definitively say this was intentional discrimination, the pattern of behavior—delayed service, missing items, assumptions about my order, lack of communication, and unnecessary decisions on my behalf—felt disrespectful and dismissive. As a paying customer, I believe it’s the restaurant’s responsibility to provide respectful, unbiased service, regardless of one’s background.

I hope the management can reflect on this and ensure better training for their staff to avoid similar experiences for others in the future.

Sorry, I should...

I cannot believe that the owners of this restaurant don’t bother to reply or comment of the customer reviews! It’s an arrogant attitude. Your customers go to the trouble of putting up a review and you couldn’t be bothered defending it replying to those reviews. Incredible! My wife and i were really looking forward to our meal having had a really memorable meal there 10 years ago. They were booked out new years eve so we took the first available table for two on 02/01/2025. We arrived on time but they had no note of our reservation - i showed them the email confirmation and so we were seated. The place was really busy and we noted lots of staff running around under pressure however our order was taken and we ordered beers to start. No sign of the beer so we ordered a bottle of wine which arrived before the beers! The service was rushed and a bit terse - water was poured in a gush almost soaking the tablecloth! The food was Terrible!!! Bruschetta was like a slice of pizza with too much cheese and soggy. The ham croquettes almost turned my stomach as the pieces of ham were hard and grizzly and we couldnt eat them. the taste of the filling was nice though. Main course was worse... my trio of pasta was all cool / cold. the white sauce was too thick and cold and the ravioli was hard ( the last one i had there melted in my mouth) My wife had the spaghetti bolognese and it was just okay ( so that was one good thing!) The desert was also tasty - in fact it was the best of the bunch Overall our experience was disappointing and we left underwhelmed and frustrated. they seem to have taken on too much or maybe they are understaffed ( but there seemed like lots of staff were on the floor) i am not sure what has gone wrong with this restaurant but we will never return. its a real pity we were so looking...

Disappointing and sub standard service.

We booked this restaurant days in advance as it had been recommended to us by family who ate here over Christmas. However, we were disappointed and appalled by the lack of service. The restaurant had large group bookings which they clearly couldn’t cope with.

When we arrived it was extremely noisy, we were sat in a table shoved in the corner. The waiter gave us 2 menus even though there were 3 of us. Another waiter came over and told us they had no pizzas left - this should have been communicated before we were seated! When we ordered they told us that because of the groups the food service was delayed more than usual - this was fine. The food arrived after 50 minutes which was ok, however, my lasagna was cold in places - when I brought it to the waiters attention he took it from me. Another waiter came over to ask if I wanted a new one? To which I said yes but asked would it take another 50 minutes, she said no and confirmed the kitchen would make a new one quickly. After 10 minutes, however, she returned with my original lasagna saying the kitchen just reheated this one as it was quicker.

We asked for the bill and were dealt with by 3 different people, when we asked to pay by card the waiter disappeared and was serving other tables. In the end I went up to pay at the counter because no one was remotely aware of us.

If you take group bookings everyone else in the restaurant shouldn’t suffer you should be able to cope and give everyone the same standard of food and service!

Would not recommend this...

Been to this restaurant on about 4 occasions now over a 4 year period. This restaurant is a slight cut above the usual cheap and cheerful, get them in- get them out burger bars etc,. They have also recently (last 18 months or so) had some good improvements made to the outside part of the establishment. This is a large eaterie but booking a table advised. The menu is extensive modern Italian food and a full wine list. Quality of food is always top-notch and waiting attentive and polite ( one waiter I spoke to whom I recognised had been with the establishment 10 years...... always a good sign). Get dressed up and go, you won't regret it. March 23 Revisited Oct '24. Still excellent. Clean and modern, great service, food top-notch. Still recommended.
