Hostility instead of hospitality,
Over the past year I've visited this place several times and while other times were actually fine (sure, tourist prices, but the food is fine, they used to be nice to our kids, and the place is often open when others are closed), the last experience was so bad I felt I compelled to share it.
My friends and I went to this place for coffee, bringing along our children. We were led to the indoor garden, which was empty at time. My kids, at a very explorative age, went to a corner of the garden, which visibly upset a female member of the staff. She ordered them to stop and, with hostility in her voice, demanded our drink order before we were even properly settled in our seats. She repeated her demand moments later, and we complied. Our drinks were served pretty fast by a different waiter, but since my friend ordered a decaf coffee and gets an espresso with unclear cafeine levels. So she points this out. The waiter went back inside, and the first female staff member came back, angrily launching a rant in Spanish directed to my friend. It came down to the fact that she finds that my friend should have ordered an 'café americano'. Now i understand that there can be misconceptions between languages (we ordered in English), ordering a 'coffee' in northern Europe will likely get you a different result as ordering a 'café' in southern Europe. But to start a rant to your tourist guests who don't even speak or understand Spanish and be so hostile, that's just unacceptable.
The rest of the staff was friendly and professional, like previous experiences. At the time of the bill, the lady had calmed down, but based on this experience, I am very actively advising people to find a different place. Or at least tip toe around and be careful. Lastly, my advice to the restaurant is to put on a sign saying 'children and foreigners not welcome' or reconsider...
Read moreWe decided to have lunch at this place seeing all the good reviews. It was our first day on Lanzarote and we ordered the “Menu Degustacion” to try a variety of local foods. On the menu it says “The best option to try our cuisine, since dishes can be changed based on the customer's choice or availability.” However, when we kindly asked about the possibility to change a dish they reacted rather annoyed, so we just stayed with it. But then eventually, they just changed some dishes without asking or telling us. First, they brought some crackers with the typical green and orange Mojos. I ate one and was about to take another when I discovered there was something white and silky on it. Looking closer, I saw there was some kind of larva / worm inside its cocoon on the side of the cracker. I am not that sensitive to those kind of things and maybe this can happen sometimes. But when I told the staff that there is some kind of insect in the food, she just gave me an irritated look and replied “what insect?!”, then took the plate with crackers and went off without even saying sorry or something. After that, we saw that they still served those crackers to other customers. On my way to the toilet, I saw that they stored them just in an open plastic bag on top the cash till. In general, it wasn’t easy to get the attention of the staff. The remaining food was actually not that bad. Even if it was just bad luck on that day, there are better ways to handle...
Read moreI spent two weeks in Lanzarote with my girlfriend and friends with their children: this restaurant is for sure one of the top3 in my holiday.
We came here by chance for a dinner during the week, so away from busiest day of market. It was worth the experience. We chose to try the dishes outside the menu, as presentation sounded delicious. And we were right. Mussles were incredible, also fried eggplants with palm oil. Bull's tail, a specialty, was beyond expectations.
Meal ended with great cakes: i chose the one with carrot which is a treat, but also the chaja is a must.
Food was great, but we like service the most: there was a little bummer during the evening but the owner solved everything with great sense of responsibility. This is something I rarely experienced.
That's why we came back to try the goat another day, and also that was top quality.
This is a place to go for good food with value for money, where I highly recommend the...
