Excellence: Gastronomic Restaurant — Restaurant in Torremolinos

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing a tasting menu at Excellence Restaurante Gastronomía in Torremolinos, and it was nothing short of exceptional. This 8-course meal with wine pairings was an unforgettable culinary journey. To accommodate our preference against seafood, the restaurant kindly adjusted the starter to a delightful cheese selection, paired perfectly with a gorgeous white wine. This thoughtful gesture set the tone for the evening. The lime soup that followed was a revelation, bursting with fresh flavors and served with homemade bread. The meat starter, featuring succulent pork and a delectable hash brown gratin, was accompanied by a delicious rosé wine. It was one of my favorite courses. Instead of fish, we were served chicken in a sublime lemon sauce. The chicken was beautifully tender and melted in the mouth. The part-frozen cocktail that came next was a refreshing palate cleanser. The main course of steak with asparagus was cooked to perfection and paired with a rich red wine. The dessert, aptly named "The Universe," was a spectacular arrangement of truffles served with lights and music—a true feast for the senses. The evening concluded with a smooth espresso martini. We visited Excellence for a birthday in February. Unfortunately, the whole experience was not the best. The meal started OK but soon started to go a little downhill. The deconstructed beef Wellington dish was a piece of steak on a vol au vent stuffed with mousse, the parsnip puree had no taste, the cod dish had the slimmy skin left on, in my opinion all the dishes were under seasoned. The dessert was a big build up only to be let down by the quality of the dessert which tasted very dry and not very sophisticated. The waiter and waitress were having to go next door for glasses amongst other things, and there seemed a very nervous atmosphere here, which made us feel uncomfortable Having visited another similar restaurant in Torremolinos on 3 other occasions, we feel that this is very much a copy that didn't meet our expectations. We visited the Excellence Restaurant last night for their taster menu and wine pairing. We knew that in the UK this sort of menu would be far beyond our budget. Though the cost is higher than an average meal out, it is incredibly good value for money and really worth it and much cheaper than most taster menus. The food was delicious and it kept on coming. It was beautifully presented and Jack and the team explained things in an interesting and entertaining way. There was real theatre with many of the courses. The team worked incredibly hard to make it a fantastic experience. But, the food spoke for itself. The quality was outstanding and the flavour combinations really worked. The wine pairings were a bit different in a good way. They were explained beautifully and worked really well with the food. Both the food and the wine just kept on coming. The three of us had an evening of 'Excellence' and we can't recommend it...
