The Favorite — Restaurant in Torremolinos

CHARGED €17 FOR 17 PORTIONS OF BREADSTICKS WE DID NOT CONSUME!!!! (PARTY OF 2) We ate at this establishment in August 2024. Our initial encounters with waitstaff were positive. Also, the starter was satisfactory. However, one male staff member (tall with buzz cut) was nothing short of rude and arrogant on a number of occasions. First of all, our cutlery was not changed in between courses and dirty looks and scoffs were given when starter cutlery was left on plates. For the interest of cleanliness and basic etiquette, you’d imagine a change of cutlery would be quite standard?. This same waiter also became quite pushy when trying to persuade us to get dessert (prior to this we had considered) but decided not to in light of this behaviour. We were asked several times and told we had to order a dessert, specifically tiramisu. We continued to politely decline. HOWEVER, to top it all off, our bill came and we were charged 17€ for SEVENTEEN items of “grissini servicio mesa” which translates to breadsticks table service. RIDICULOUS and pathetic attempt to take more money off of tourists who do not speak the language. We brought this to the attention of a waitress who appeared confused and fixed this problem. The waiter at fault eventually came over with a card reader and the overcharged amount ready for us to pay. When we brought his error to his attention, we did not receive an apology. It was like he knew what he had done and was disappointed we hadn’t fallen for his pathetic little trap. This is utterly disgraceful and something I have never experienced in my many years of coming to Torremolinos on holidays. The food is good but the service is shockingly bad. We have been here 3 times over the past few weeks and each time the service has gotten worse and worse. On our last visit after being seated we waited over 20 minutes for anyone to ask if we wanted drinks and there were only two other tables being used so they weren’t busy. After receiving our food nobody checked on our table once to see if we wanted more drinks and 25 minutes after finishing the food we were still waiting for our plates to be cleared from the table. We had to get up to find a member of staff to ask for the bill and after the bill was delivered we waited another 20 minutes and nobody came to take the credit card payment. We had to get up again and pay on the way out. Interestingly the Spanish couple on the next table had their plates cleared and paid and left even though we had finished first. I guess they do not like the British. If the owner reads this review and you do want tourists to visit then you really need to get your staff to show some interest. On our previous two visits we had left an above average tip but tonight we did not tip at all as we were totally ignored by every member of staff. PLEASE ALSO NOTE. Since I wrote this review the owner has responded to the 5 star reviews written after mine but hasn’t bothered to respond to my honest review of our experiences at this restaurant. We stayed at the hotel next door and wanted to try out this place. We normally don’t frequent the same restaurants when on holiday, but after the first dinner here, we came back three more times! (We were only here 10 days). Finally a restaurant where they give you the traditional carbonara, none of that touristy stuff. The crust on the pizza’s was so delicious and nice and thin, but never soggy! My absolute recommendation is the Pizza Carbonara Originale and I asked for them to put some truffle sauce on it. I ordered this pizza 3 out of 4 times and I’m missing it already now that we’re going home. I can’t describe it, I savored every bite, it was THAT good. As you can tell, I really recommend this place! Oh another tip is the Pan Trufa as a starter which I recommended sharing, as it’s quite big! It’s pretty much the size of half a pizza, with melted cheese and truffle, very delicious.
