El Bodegón Caleta — Restaurant in Vélez-Málaga

Service was terrible. They didn't notice me for good 15 mins while i was sitting there (restaurant was empty, only 2 tables were occupied by families). When waiter came - he mentioned that my spanish is bad and better not to use it (living in Spain for good 2 years and freely speaking with native Spanish speakers). Intentionally ignored my attempt to keep talking on spanish. Kitchen was closed at the time I came (around 17:45) so I've decided to wait, cause I came there for grill that this place is being famous for. After kindly asking to notify me when kitchen will be open - I was ignored again. I was waiting till 18:40-18:45 till I stood up and went to kitchen myself to ask if they are open - they said they are open from 17:30. I was still hoping for good food cause my spanish friends were giving me recommendations about this restaurant. I ordered grilled chicken - and I got fried chicken which was cold inside - means they microwaved it or heat on normal pan. Food - 2/10. Service - 2/10 only because when I asked for bill - they bring it in 3 mins. Place - 7/10, has good toilets, adapted for disable person. Has an open fire grill. Didn't try it though. Would...

We came 5 persons on a sunny but windy day, Nov 3. A few people where sitting here and there. We found a table in the sun against a wall that protected us from the wind. When the waiter came and heard we were there to eat we were "forced" to a table in the shade and munch more exposed to the wind. Apparently because he was to lazy to prepare the table we had choosen. Other people arrived later and had no problem to sit where they wanted. Then we were given one menu to share between the five of us and when we were not ready to order when he came it took a very long time until he came back to take our orders. Two of us wanted to have the grilled chicken another man close to us was eating and the waiter told us to order the chicken breast. Turn out that was far from what the other man was eating and not very tastful. All the other people seemed to enjoy the place so I guess we just had some bad luck with the poor service...

I came here because of the many good reviews. However, I was surprised because my experience was quite bad, actually. The quality of the fish wasn't good in my opinion. I know what I am talking about because I am from this region of Spain. In addition, it wasn't properly fried. All the dishes came with excess of oil. Even so, it was still eatable. However, I was quite dissapointed with the fresh shells ("conchas finas"). They all had an ugly smell like rotten fish. Probably they were not kept inside a fridge. They are supposed to be served alive and cold, but they were dead and warm, hence the rotten smell. In addition, the place is quite crowded and sitting inside (with air conditioning system)...
