Having just enjoyed a wonderful sunset Catamaran trip, we were looking for somewhere to enjoy dinner in Caleta port. It was a Tuesday and only three restaurants were open. Two, including Chinchin were busy so we initially opted for the place next door. However, experience should have told us that restaurants are quiet for a reason. In this case, a waiter who was rude beyond belief, caused us to reconsider and hope that Chinchin was able to accommodate us. Luckily, it was.
First point of praise was service. There was enough staff to ensure every table had maximum attention. All the staff were knowledgeable, courteous and friendly. The restaurant is elegant but not fussy and tables are well spaced with lovely marina views.
We ordered a tapa of ensalada Rusa which was rich, creamy and delicious. Secondly, a tomato salad, that was fresh and flavourful. Both dishes wetted our appetite. Then followed the main stars of this culinary treat: the fish. We started with pulpo a la brasa, grilled octopus which was so succulent and possibly the best I have tasted. Even the accompanying side was incredible: a truffle oil infused mashed potato. Next came rapé, monkfish, cooked to perfection and finally, merluza or hake. Each fish course was served separately, all with fresh vegetables and this allowed us to both digest and enjoy.
Finally, we could not resist ordering two desserts: tiramisu and leche frita. The tiramisu was light but packed a hidden punch of coffee liqueur. However, the leche frita was simply outstanding. Despite its strange name: fried milk, this dessert is a lightly battered custard served with a crème Anglais and a light dusting of cinnamon. Words do not do justice to this taste sensation.
Our bill for four, including drinks, was a highly respectable €137. For the quality, ambiance and location it was a great experience and we...
Read moreOriginally a small restaurant around the corner to its present location. The food and atmosphere in the original location was what attracted me when I first moved to the area. The new premises are stunning and ten times bigger than the original, contemporary, spotlessly clean with attention to fine detail. The owner strives to obtain the freshest and best quality fish and sea food he can and both himself and his chef are outstanding and proud to serve some of the finest and simplest dishes in the area. The staff are attentive, courteous and more often than not appear genuinely happy to welcome you. Exemplary in a village where service with a smile is sadly lacking. I have eaten here many times or stopped to relax with a glass of wine and admire the view of the yachts in the marina. Eleven out...
