Restaurante Mesón Las Espigas — Restaurant in Valencia

We had noticed this restaurant while walking by on several occasions. We notice that it was sometimes fully booked and thought it was worth a try. On Saturday night we visited it. We were not disappointed. For us we don't want to spend a fortune. The meal and drinks came to 44 Euros for two and we thought this was tremendous value for money.

We ordered a 16 euro set menu (16 Euros each) combination that turned out to be fish & meat - fantastic for me - I love fish and my wife is less keen. When the meat course arrived it had chicken, pork & lamb plus vegetables which more than satisfied my wife.

The service was very good even though it was very busy, the house wine very acceptable and the atmosphere brilliant. We loved our Saturday evening out at the restaurant. The question is - would we go again? The answer is definitely. We also want to try the "menu del dia" next week when we return...

My husband was looking for octopus and we decided to try this place. We were trying to stay within walking distance to our hotel and they seemed to have the type of authentic Spanish seafood we were seeking. We were kindly greeted and attended to promptly. We had scallops, prawns, octopus, sea bass & salmon-all excellent! The food came out quickly too! Towards the end we were pleasantly surprised when they brought us complimentary shots of a local València alcohol to try. If you speak a different language other than Spanish, that didn’t seem to be an issue for this staff. Delicious paella with seafood! I was alone, and this dish is served in at least two portions. I decided to order and took one portion to go. Please note - that the menu states 16 euros for one portion! That is, a paella dish with seafood will cost you 32 euros. However, I think that the portion is very large and if you order more starters, then this dish is for three! The wait is from 20 minutes, there is a warning about this, and as a ‘compliment’ from restaurant, you can satisfy your hunger with salted nuts while you wait.
