Terrible Experience – Food Safety Concerns!

We had an extremely disappointing and distressing experience at Califa Tapas Vejer de la Frontera last night. After dining there, both my wife and I suffered from severe food poisoning—I was vomiting all night, and my wife experienced intense diarrhea.

When we contacted the restaurant representative to report our condition, he admitted that the lamb and fish they served were frozen, something that was not disclosed on the menu. This is highly misleading and completely unacceptable, especially considering the health risks associated with improperly stored or handled frozen meat and seafood.

A restaurant should be transparent about the quality and freshness of its ingredients, and at the very least, ensure that food is stored, prepared, and served safely. Given our terrible experience, I strongly urge others to be cautious before dining here.

We expected a pleasant meal, but instead, we ended up with a serious health issue. I hope the restaurant takes this matter seriously and improves its food safety standards and menu transparency immediately.

On our previous visits to Vejer we got to know "Coredera 55" and "El jardin de califa" we loved the food at both of them. Today it was a turn of "Califa Tapas". On our next visit we will be well confused which one to go to as all three are really good so the choice is getting harder. We had falafel , I don't know another place where it tastes better, mezze del califal and we ordered pinchos morunos which we have just managed to try when the heaven opened and our plates started filling up with rain water. The waiters were very kind, organized and helpfull. All customers ended in the tiny bar, some that haven't finished their meal were placed behind the bar where they could enjoy it to the last bite. Our pincho despaired. We were not charged for it anyway. As we were waiting for the rain to stop we had a peace of an apple cake with almonds which as well was delicious. Very good experience in a worthy place and menu! The specialities are very delicious on good quality in affordable prices.

My boyfriend and I ordered fish (tuna and cod) for less than 10€, the savor, the quality and the portion were there. And not mentioning the starters where the portion was generous... Also delightful. Restaurant situated in calle corredera with amazing view from the terrasse, I'd certainly recommend it.

The waiter, Antonio, very detailed and professional were good with us. His service and his presence were impeccable, tip definitely well deserved :)

Overall, left the place happy, full, satisfied and well spend money....
