Restaurante El Alférez — Restaurant in Vejer de la Frontera

El Palmar is Wild West Andalucia, a single strip dotted with low key surf bars, hire shops and dirt roads connecting it to the road to Conil and Vejer. It gets busy in August, but you can always find a spot this far west. Buildings over one storey are few and far between, this small typically spanish hotel being one of the few. The sea view balcony rooms are small but spotless with a vista to the west of the best beach in Spain IMO. Staff are cheerful and delightful, can't comment on their English skills as we spoke Spanish to them. We arrived early and they made such an effort to get the room ready. The restaurant downstairs is famous for its local tuna. Don't expect flashy - that's not El Palmar. Just relax and wait...

Curioso Restaurante, la entrada se encuentra cerrada con un cordón grueso evitando así la entrada de personas. Has de esperar a que se acerque algún camarero. Preguntamos si era posible reservar mesa y nos dijeron que estaba todo completó y lista de espera, pero que para incluirnos en la lista de espera, había que esperar allí consumiendo.en la barra o en mesas altas, desistimos por qué queríamos darnos un breve baño. Volvimos a las 14,15, y después de esperar unos minutos a qué un camarero ( desairados todos, ignorando al que se acerque) finalmente se acerco un chico de unos 30 y algo años después de hacerle varias señas. Nos contestó que estaba todo "completito" , en ese instante llega otra pareja, al que el camarero saluda con un sonrisa. Nos invita a dar un vueltecita y volver en 20 minutos. Nos dirigimos a otro Restaurante que previamente nos habían recomendado. Pero nos quedamos observando y el camarero hace pasar de inmediato a la otra pareja.Que hicieron la misma pregunta, que no es tuvieran reserva. Todo un profesional de la hostelería! Para que tengáis una idea de nuestro perfil, yo me dedicó a estudios de viabilidad de empresas. Y mi mujer es Abogada en Derecho Penal. Si quieren un consejo gratuito, Cambien el sistema de admisión en su negocio. Para que el público no se sienta como un mendigo en su puerta. Ahora sí les va bien así, continúen como si fuese un club privado. Está anécdota totalmente veraz será conocida en varios foros gastronómicos Por cierto en el otro Restaurante fuimos recibidos de manera extraordinariamente simpática y amable y en menos de 10 minutos estábamos sentados en la terraza con vista al mar,.en primera fila,.el encargado. This review is for the restaurant not hotel. Overall I felt the service was very good but the food was not worth the price. The tomatoes in our tomato and tuna salad were not ripe all the way and lacked flavor. The squid ink rice needed some acidity and was not enjoyable. The tuna taster was fine but just fine. I’ve seen it done better at other restaurants. Overall this is a nice restaurant and perhaps we ordered wrong but I’m not sure I’d call this Michelin...
