El Sombrerito sits high in the mountains, past the clouds, with a superb and dominating view of El Sombrero. It is only a ten minute drive from Pino Gordo and the surrounding natural parks. The location is awesome.
Our room was a large double, with a cute shower bathroom and warm but bright coloured walls. With access to the balcony, seats and table, waking up and relaxing to everyday happenings in Vilaflor was serene. The beds are soft and there are plenty of options for quilts and duvets. You can always be comfortable.
The food was rustic, simple and delicious. Breakfast and dinner were served at the times we needed to accommodate our schedule. The bar is adorned with quirky and thought provoking decor, some which catch the eye and some that provoke interesting discussion. A great selection of drinks and a perfect sangria to accompany.
Don't just go for the location. The service from Marielle and Ector was kind, compassionate and professional. Marielle and Ector, and their colleagues were always attentive and diligent people. They are the reason why El Sombrerito deserves 5 stars. Karaoke happens once a week, with Marielle running the show and leading the way. It is amazing how comfortable you can feel doing karaoke in front of strangers for the first can be such a rewarding experience.
Adios, El Sombrerito, I...
Read moreFrom 5 march till 12 march 2025, I stayed another week in Vilaflor and El Sombrerito. Again I had a very good time there. English speaking Ector and Mariela run a beautiful hotel, bar, and restaurant. And Ector is a fine cook too! I had the 'fish of the day' and later the entrecote. Tasted very good mate! And not expensive. He makes local meals too, with goat's meat, goat's cheese, mutton, etcetera. Very good breakfast too. Muesli, milk, orange juice, thee, coffee, bread, eggs, fruit; everything you need. The room was fine and not too cold. A little electric radiator for the coldest nights, and an extra blanket was enough. it can get cold at night at 1500 meters altitude. When the bar is open you can watch football or tv in the evening on the big screen in the bar. And of course drink anything you want. Perfect hiking tracks around picturesque Vilaflor, Paisaje Lunar, Las Lajas, Pino Gordo, Pino Enano, beautiful churches and hermitas, the restored gardens.... And of course you have to visit the volcano the Teide, and the caldera at 2200 meters altitude. By bus at around 10.30 am, and back at around 15.30 pm, or by taxi. Some persons even go there by bike.... not me.... Regardless, I had a very good time at El Sombrerito once again. Thank you very much, and maybe we'll meet again....
Read moreDefinitely not the usual hotel experience, location is perfect if you’re looking to hike and visit the teide national park & hiking areas. If you want to see anything else, highly recommend renting a car because this location is a bit out of the way if you are looking to strictly taxi or use the bus.
Breakfast was very plain and simple, not much going on. Unfortunately we had ran into a few spoiled eggs (it happens), but not the nicest thing to see. Older folk that works here was a bit hostile. Interrupted our meal a few times, once to aggressively make a point for the breakfast schedule (as if we were being a burden staying a bit late) and once to make a point that we must return uneaten or unopened food back to the table and not take it outside of the cafeteria, we were not even finished eating. Otherwise, okay.
Room was nice, decent space and storage, blinds are bolted shut so almost no natural lighting and a bit gloomy, view isn’t the greatest from the room.
The owner was super nice and kind, his service was great. Also, house keeping was impeccable, the woman was very kind and kept the room very neat.
Everyone else seemed a bit disinterested but it very well may be the language barrier, which is...
