We had by far the worst experience ever at the hotel + restaurant. In the spa area we booked two massages for 180€ and were startled every two minutes in the rooms as they were at the restaurant and tables and chairs were rearranged. In addition, small construction work was done in the restaurant which as in the massage room had to endure constantly. We pointed this out to the staff but unfortunately they could not speak English and thus could not help us. Since we also had oil on our face, our hair was also affected. But we had booked a table afterwards to eat on site in the restaurant. So we had to take a shower - unfortunately there was just no hot water in the whole spa area. Sounds crazy but it was like that. After we asked for a supervisor, a lady came and told us right at the entrance that her English was not so good. We explained the situation and she opened the door and said: Gracias! We were so surprised and asked her what she meant by that because we just wanted to give her the feedback. Her answer was: Not a good massage, Don't pay. Okay we were very surprised that a high end place like this has such a bad communication with the customers. But wanted to go into a communication and not be fobbed off like that. She said she was sorry and went over to the restaurant we were going to eat at to tell all her colleagues what happened over there. A great feeling when entering the restaurant when the two older gentlemen, the two young people look stupidly from the side. Always without prejudice, of course! We were immediately told that we could not have a drink outside because it was too windy. Outside, of course, people were already sitting. We still had half an hour until we would get our reserved table. Again will he accompanied us sighing outside on the terrace to the other guests on which we have then decided to spend our money rather elsewhere. It could not have been more unpleasant. But the highlight was yet to come. On the way to the exit of the area, a man stopped us who came out of the reception. And said we still have to pay because if we had a massage it can not be that we do not pay for it. We finally lost faith at that moment. After we had to explain everything to him again, we could finally leave this horrible place. If we could give zero...
Read moreDining at Kamezi Deli & istro was a real experience. From the moment you walk through the door you know you are in for something special, the deli's shelves are stocked with an amazing selection of local produce. After a couple of minutes wait we were shown to our cave, right on the water the view was umatched, and as we took our seats they offered us a glass of local sparkling wine before we ordered our drinks, a glass of local white for Bla and a Capitán NAO (American IPA) for me. We would be having the Tapas set menu and as soon as the food arrived we knew we were in for a treat. First we given some crispy sour dough and black bread, baked in house, canarian potatoes with rojo sauce. But then the main event, the first board was a feast for the eye, the Kamezi salad, served in a handcrafted bowl, was a tangy delight, the combination of fresh strawberries, oven roasted baby tomatoes and the passionfruit sauce. Then the Russian salad piped to a cloud of Merengue. PETO AHUMADO Blue Fish in a tartar sauce served on toast something I devoured in 2 bites and lastly the prawns on a tapioca crisp covered in a mild pilpil. First course finished our boards were taken away and replaced with fresh delights. To compliment this I got a Bermeja Malpeis (American IPA) nice and dry very refreshing. First we have a beetroot Gazpacho, served in a low bowl surrounded by cubes of beetroot, goats cheese and light beetroot sponge. Then in a grey bowl was my favourite dish, the Ceviche, a amazing blend of fish with fresh and roasted corn. For the third board I had a Colorada NAO (Doble IPA Red) to enjoy with the final dishes, a double serving of pork, boa bun and taco. Both rich in their flavour. The meat so tender in a wonderful gravy. I will be honest I didn't really care for the desert, while perfectly executed, I'm not a big fan of jelly, which was the main component of this this. Overall it was a wonderful experience at Kamezi and we will come back next time we are...
Read moreWhat Lanzarote needs, it’s first Michelin star.
I’ve been to a few starred places, but nothing quite as good as this. In fact, I would come back specifically to Lanzarote to come to this restaurant (where before, I felt that would never happen after having booked a hotel in the dated Playa Blanca resort and having felt a little down about my experience here). That is the criteria for 3 stars right? I am no critic, which is a shame.
Kamezi goes out of its way to shower the beautiful island with love and appreciation from the moment you walk into the market, the kitchens, the restaurant. The interior is an ode to the famous artist of the island, Manrique, or at least I felt like it was. You know it’s going to be spectacular as soon as you sit down. The food comes in a 9-12 course tasting menu course and we asked for a vegetarian menu! And they obliged, not everywhere does that and then creates the highest quality food to match. At €75-90 a head, it might seem pricey, but what ends up feeling like a private Michelin star dining experience with an incredibly skilled sommelier (I don’t know how he just knew!!), with each dish as memorable as the last, it’s worth it several times over. Hands down the best meal of my life, and we will come back to the island just for this (and the stunning museums villages, vineyards and drives are a bonus). It’s wonderful when a meal can remind you of all the beautiful parts and make you forget everything else.
Also! I’ve never felt as full in my life after a meal, the courses kept coming and I couldn’t say no, I’m not sure why some people have said they didn’t feel full. It’s a tasting menu so of course the portions are small individually but in the end it’s a lot! I was even too uncomfortable to walk home.
Hint: ask for the vegetarian menu, it...
