Don’t miss Raavana Cafe on your visit to Weligama! Raavana has mouthwatering food and is locally owned by a wonderful family.

The inspired dishes are made with incredible ingredients (like their homemade peanut butter) and lots of love. Just look at the presentation 😍 We had a chance to speak with the local Weligama family who runs this restaurant out of their home. Hashita and Chamara have helped open some of the best restaurants in Weligama like Nomad and Moochies. This experience inspired them to create something of their own earlier this year. A similar quality of food and inspired menu with much better prices and all of the money going towards this honest and hardworking local family. Not only did we get an amazing meal, through our conversations with the family, we feel more connected to the culture and kindness of the Sri Lankan people ❤️

This was the best smoothie bowl I’ve had, not just in Sri Lanka but ever!! And in comparison to other cafes in the area, the price is unbeatable considering the quality also, I had the choco smoothie bowl which he changed to coconut milk for me and also requested peanut butter on top which was no problem! The coffee soul was amazing too and so big, you would pay more for a simple latte in other cafes in weligama, also gave a free big bottle of water! The cafe is so cute too, a really rustic and chill vibe inside and a beautiful garden outside, staff were super friendly and smiley too, I don’t know how this place wasn’t packed! I will definitely be back while I’m in the area :)

This is a hidden gem of Weligama! Came here today for coffee and smoothie bowl and I loved it. I like the rustic vibe of this café and the jungle garden vibe at the back. The food and coffee were great and they still keep the prices very affordable like how the Weligama used to be few years ago. The owner, Hasitha, talked to me for a bit and was really welcoming. I highly recommend to everyone visiting Weligama to come here.

He asked me to leave a review so I will state my honest experience: the staff/family are incredibly kind and welcoming. However my experience with the food was not so great.

I ordered shakshuka and iced coffee. Both had really terrible flavor. The coffee had a chemical taste to it, seemingly from the kithul syrup they apparently use, it tasted very bad.

The shakshuka looked ok but the taste was bitter/acidic, perhaps from a canned tomato paste they used. It was not balanced at all. I received it and tasted it, it didn’t have any salt/seasoning in it at all and I had to request salt and pepper. That didn’t help however, the bitterness/acidity overpowered everything. I was too hungry to wait longer so I reluctantly ate it.

I think the place is cute and quaint with good vibes from the family, however the basic understanding of cooking (balance of salt/fat/acidity/sweetness/spice) definitely needs...

came for the food (which was outstanding), stayed for the warmth and hospitality of chamara and hashita’s family. at first when we walked in, we had nary an idea that we were walking into their former home converted into a restaurant - so don’t be surprised! and then we were received with the warmest of greetings and hearts, and further to that, treated with amazing meals and coffees.

the star rating system is but one way of measuring service and quality, but lying in between in the unspoken is the immeasurable humanity - the stars being just a thin veil approximating the experience that i and countless others have experienced coming into contact with Chamara and hashita’s famjam.

raavana comes at my highest recommendation!
