Kuma Seafood Restaurant — Restaurant in Weligama

I DO NOT RECOMMEND 👎. I was expecting good things from this restaurant but unfortunately was left VERY disappointed. My partner and I ordered only 3 things, seafood and prawn noodles, and vegetable soup. Food took over an hour to arrive, my partner’s food arrived first and I had to follow up and ask about mine - had to wait another 15-20 minutes to receive my noodles. The table next to us who arrived 30ish minutes after us, got all their food first and we were still waiting for ours. Had to cancel the vegetable soup as we had finished our noodles and it still hadn’t arrived after an hour, staff kept saying “5 more minutes” repeatedly and were very pushy, however I insisted we didn’t want it anymore. I walked up to the kitchen and they hadn’t even started it. The staff were not apologetic or did not say sorry at all about the delay etc.

My partner’s seafood noodles was also lacking for the price, he only received a little bit of chopped prawns and small bits of calamari, the rest just noodles and thinly sliced vegetables. He said it was not worth the price. As we walked out the restaurant, I decided to check the bill again as I wondered why we got charged so much (around 7.5k Rs - they didn’t show the total price before I tapped my card, but I placed trust in them that they’d charge me correctly) and so we went back to double check the bill, only to notice they charged us 4000 Rs instead of 400 Rs for SODA WATER. When all the staff gathered to check the bill, they were laughing/smiling at each other and whispering to each other, AGAIN, they did not apologise. My partner and I were very upset and disappointed with the experience, the staff were not friendly, apologetic or empathetic at all. They were very cold. I am writing this and barely can move. It's always so difficult to decide what I want so I take everything 🥲 so far I tried langoustine, shrimps, squid and octopus. Squid is incredible 😻 I ordered it today for second time. So how is this place different and better from restaurants around: free spicy chips when u order beer, salad with each order (I love salads too much), free white rice with order, and lime with my beer (weird but the restaurant next to it charges u for lime). You can ask for some discount if you come regularly. What is good they cook seafood how it is - on grill with some spices, not with these weird sauces when you can't already feel the taste of seafood. All guys who working there are nice. Love it. Will back here again for sure (still didn't manage to eat fish, seafood took my heart).

Updates: I went there few more times and now I know that most tasty seafood in the world is slipper lobster 😁 it looks kinda ugly (I will add photos when it's raw and cooked) but tastes heavenly. Regular lobster was good too. Also I ate coral fish...

Tonight's dinner was our best meal since we are in Sri Lanka! (We've been around for 10 days) The fish was so fresh. They grilled our white snapper with salt and pepper, served with rice, small side salad and a yummy garlic sauce. The garlic sauce wasn't the one you can get from a supermarket. It tasted more complicated. It was definitely enough for me and my bf. However, we ordered a prawns kottu too, which was also delish and we were so well fed ✌🏻✨ It's a great setting. We sat facing the ocean on the beach with a candle on the table. How romantic! There were so many mosquitos as it's out on the beach. We were worried if we will be eaten by them before we eat our food 😂 But they provided us this 100% natural oil repellent and it worked well. Their service made me feel they actually care and they were attentive. We recommend this restaurant for everyone. We will be back once more while we are here!...
