Layback Rooftop Café, Restaurant & Bar (part of Layback surf camp) — Restaurant in Weligama

We've been traveling south Sri Lanka since end of February 2023 and were looking for healthy food options that have vegan and non vegan options as my husband and I have different dietary restrictions/preferences. We were so glad we did find Layback Rooftop Restaurant via an Instagram Add, because when you walk through Weligama Centre you can pass by it easily. They serve healthy food options that are either vegan or can be made vegan and also where the staff does not use the terms vegan and vegetarian interchangeably. Like the Surfers Superfood Salad which I always ordered with Tofu and my husband with chicken. It is a well balanced salad that leaves you satisfied and full belly which is not always given in the other restaurants in the area. What was very important for us as well were the consistency of taste as you can find a lot of places in Weligama that might leave a good impression at first and the second time it may taste very different and leave you disappointed. The other thing is the amount of food and price tag. It is worth it and you leave happy and full. Same with the drinks, the lemonades come in a big jar. Layback Rooftop Café is amazing place to have breakfast, lunch or couple of drinks. Food is so yummy and beautifully laid out, and they really do everything they can to give you the best experience possible. You can easily meet people from all around the world there, since the cafe is connected to surf camp that operates in the same building. If you are looking for a chilled ambiance with good energy and food, this is a place for you.

We all know the food alone is not enough for 5 star review. Staff members in Layback Rooftop Café are the loveliest and the most genuine people you will meet. I stayed at Layback surf camp, and it was one of the highlights of my days to see them and their lovely smiles. Dutch owned, chic cafe situated a road away from Weligama beach front, Layback cafe provides delicious food and a great space for digital workers. We visited layback twice and sampled a few dishes, all were made with real fresh ingredients and were mostly western brunch classics with a little Sri Lankan flair. The staff are all very polite, the decor is really clean and provides a really chilled spot to get some laptop work done and enjoy some vibrant and healthy food as well.
