To me, hot pot is an experience that is best served when you are in a group. Yet, that does not mean that you, as a solo traveler or as a couple can't enjoy hot pot. In fact, I love going to hot pots so much that, I went to hot pot restaurants in multiple countries including Hong Kong, before visiting this one.
Unfortunately, my experience in Dubbelgarden was not up to the expectation. First of all, they are quite understaffed. Sure, there were a lot of East Asian customers, which made the work easier for the restaurant. But, for the others, there should be a bit more information and guidance other than the TV show.
Our waitress was a kid, who perhaps was a summer worker. She was not much aware of the restaurant it seemed, and we had to seek for her multiple times to ask to bring her the hot pot, to bring our drinks, to order more drinks and what not. Also, as we asked for broth suggestions, she was not sure which one to suggest.
The food choice was decent, even though considering the price there could be something different - too many cheap seafood items were a bit frustrating to see. Perhaps,...
Read moreWe never gave any restaurant a 1 star as we understand how hard the business can be. We ordered two a lar cate dishes, the food was average for Chinese food - quite expensive for the quality. But when checking, they mixed up the bills written we ordered buffet for two people plus two a lar carte dishes. Then we told them to re-calculate the bill, at the end they charged us 15 kr written on the bill as 'Extra'. So we asked what was extra, they said it's a jar of tab water.
They served us a jar of tap water, did not say this was going to be charged. They did not even serve it with lemon or ice. Just a jar of tap water with two empty glasses which should be free in Sweden. It is even more upsetting they wrote on the bill 'Extra', did not even say this was water/ drink. I considered this is against customer rights.
We went to many many restaurants in Sweden, even at fancy ones, not a single restaurant charged for plain tap water. It's not about money but being sincere to your customers. We would not mind if they told us in advance for the price, we would go with soft drinks or...
Read moreDubbelgården brings Hot Pot to Gothenburg. While it can be overwhelming when you are not familiar with it, the staff will help you - or bring a seasoned friend. There are four vegan broths, plentiful of vegan ingredients to choose from and you can ask to get your plate stir-fried as well. Only downside is the lack of labeling of ingredients which can be frightening if you are unfamiliar. But if you want to have a large buffet that is vegan friendly, this is the place to be. As someone who lived in Asia, I love the throwback to the social gathering that Hot Pot really is, so I’d recommend giving it a shot - but bring an experienced friend for...
