A case of an unfortunate misunderstanding... as after my earlier review I met the owners, a lovely couple. It seems the restaurant staff were tight for their bookings and that there is a policy at Meat's where guests who reserve determine nightly staffing, which in turn determine the table capacities for the entire night... regardless of the time reserved.
This is in fact probably shows how genuine Meat's seeks to serve its customers best. Service over economics.
It thus seems the Waiter that night was flustered and we seemingly got lost between my OK German and his surprise to me challenging the logic of his statements (it is not Swiss).
We are all good and it shows, speak to each other and clearly communicate the service offering to all potential clients. Meat's are nt selling seating slots, they are selling you an experience for the entire night. I should have booked a few days earlier then.
So my feeling of being discriminated was not warranted. We talked as we should have done. No hard feelings. I will book and go enjoy the great food there one day soon.
So everyone can stop now trolling me across the internet please (:-))
EARLIER REVIEW
24th May at 1815hrs i popped down on my bicycle to reserve in person dinner. It was planned to have dinner there with my 8 yesr old daughter that evening... at 1930hrs after her dance class.
I stood by the maitre di stand and a man popped out. I asked if I could reserve a table for tonight for two persons. I did not say what time. He immeeiately looked at me (up and down)- i am a brown skinned person - and said after looking at his reservation schedule: " I can not reserve as they were fully booked." I said, are you sure? You dis not ask me what time nor does it make sense that tou are booked. I looked at the book he had and counted the numbers scheduled that night - came to 18 persons.
I asked to sit at the bar or outside as the evening was sunny. He just kept repeating" Fully booked". I then said that can't be. Surely if fully booked a sign would be placed at this desk for all to see. I turned around and left, as I felt unwelcomed.
Later I took my daughter to Krone - a friends restaraunt. We ate outside there and walked back past the Meats restaraunt (ca. 2015) - to go get our bicycles to go home. In disbelief, I looked in at Meats and saw several tables unoccupied and the entire bar stools vacants of patrons. I took photos. The restaraunt was half full. That is when I felt a pit well in my stomach.
The management ought to know about this experience. My local friends - all white - suggested I post this review to make theowners aware. Otherwise, I would have just bit my lip and never turned up there again.
Posted in English as my German is not good enough to comfortably write this review.
CHIEF BUTCHER @ MEATS. Thanks for following up today. I will contact you later today by phone and arrange to meet the Manager. I hope it is as said. I need to understand why the photos show the empty bar, empty outside tables, and empty inside table. Also why the time I wanted to reserve was not even asked by the staff member.
Perhaps it is a simple staffing issue or policy. So in open fairness, it is worth speaking / meeting to understand what...

I visited Meat’s Restaurant in Aarau with my two Canadian friends. It was an absolutely incredible dining experience!
From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by the warm and inviting atmosphere. The menu is a carnivore’s dream, offering a wide variety of expertly prepared meats. We tried several dishes, and each one was cooked to perfection—juicy, flavorful, and seasoned just right. The quality of the ingredients was outstanding, and it’s clear that the chefs take great pride in their craft.
The service was top-notch, with friendly and attentive staff who made sure we had everything we needed. They even took the time to explain the different cuts of meat and recommend pairings, which added to the overall experience.
My Canadian friends, who are usually quite particular about their food, were thoroughly impressed. They couldn’t stop raving about how it was one of the best meals they’ve had in Switzerland.
If you’re in Aarau and love meat, Meat’s Restaurant is a must-visit. It’s the perfect place for a memorable meal with friends or family....
Read moreThis restaurant has been on my list to visit for a long time now. This week my wife and I finally pulled the trigger.
The decoration here is unpretentiousness and quite fitting. I especially liked the logs 🪵 n the wall 😎
I ordered a Swiss prime ribeye with the smoked by cherry tree wood & vanilla. It was perfect, what a superb idea. Especially with a glass of wine, which was matured in barrique 😋😋😋👍🏻
However the sides we ordered were a bit disappointing, the sweet cheese fries were too salty and the Mac in the Mac & cheese were overcooked (should be al dente) and also a bit too salty.
The service was only soso, although friendly there were several instances where it was not up to the standard of a steak house:
-did not remember who of us had the white wine for aperitif when the red wine was served (should be easy to spot which wine glass was already used) -forgot to serve the steak sauce and no apology when I mentioned it -was not asked if I wanted a second glass of red wine.
🙈
All in all it was still a good experience and I would come again to give it a...
